Get a big bottle of white vinegar.
Pour it into the steriliser & run it's cycle.
Then run it's cycle again with just water in it.
Now it's good as new & perfectly safe & taste free, to use for the babys stuff. :-)

Hi there i use lemon juice for cleaning the steriliser due to the same problem you are having. You cannot buy citric acid anymore because of drug addicts use it when they are doing heroin, this is to clean there needles etc. So i use lemon juice because you get the natural citric acid from the juice and it works. But the one from mothercare will do the trick too.White vinegar will do it too. But i tried to get citric acid from bots and they said they do not sell it anymore. But a smaller chemist may do it.

I always use baking soda, similar thing I guess in that it will have the same effect as citric acid. You need to put about half a teaspoon in the kettle of cold water, bring it the boil and switch off. Leave to stand for about five minutes (or longer depending on the amount of scale in the kettle) and then empty. Fill the kettle with plain water and bring to the boil again - this should be repeated a couple of times to remove any residue/taste. Good luck.

Citric acid can be found at most bulk food stores, most grocery stores (with the canning supplies) and behind the counter at many drug stores (you have to ask for it because they weigh it out for you).

If you can't find it use vinegar. However citric acid is nice to have around for when you are sick. Also there is some evidence it prevents SIDS.

I get citric acid at Walgreens. If it is not on the shelf, ask the pharmacist if you can order it. White vinegar also works.

I guess you are from the UK!

Any chemist or pharmicist will sell you citric acid. About 50p a pot, works a treat. I use it on my kettle and it is totally harmless product!

Check what the active ingredients are in the Mothercare stuff. Try asking your local pharmacy or (lightbulb!) the homebrew shop.

Vinegar!!!!!!! Just cover the element with it, bring to the boil and then pour it away. Rinse well after - and the house will smell of vinegar for a bit!

Try vinegar or lemon juice. As long as you rinse it out properly you should be fine.
