I like C.

The previous answerer chose D, and you can see that the only difference between C and D is whether variation or environmental change happens first. I think that variation already exists in the population, so when the environment changes then some of the individuals in the population may have the right variation to be able to survive. If it's the other way around and the environment changes first, the population will not have enough time to make a new set of offspring with variations that match. That's not how it happens.

I think it is D. The answer is probably in your text book or you could do some research at this site: http://evolution.berkeley.edu/evolibrary/search/topicbrowse2.php?topic_id=48

It's definitely C, in a not very good question.
