I remember seeing a TV show it said that about 60% of women in chat rooms or games (like World of Warcraft) (or possibly even here in Yahoo answers are men acting like women)

It depends where you are. Here on Yahoo Answers, probably less than 10% of the women are actually men. On a site like MySpace, this would probably drop to an even lower number, something like 5%. However, when playing online games, the number can get much higher, and could very well pass 50% for games like World of WarCraft, Runescape, Guild Wars and so on. There are also certain places (I've noticed this when playing multiplayer Half-Life) where there are so few people who even claim to be female that it's difficult to get any meaningful statistics.

I can't say about ther percentage, but its a fact that there are good numbers males pretending to be women. I have personally come across a few cases, especislly on Yahoo Chat rooms.

I am not sure these numbers are truly representative. My experience when interacting with users on the Internet is that anyone can present their self and any gender they want to be identified with. There are a lot of guys who pretend to be females, and vice verse. It's sorta fun actually. It creates an anonymous way to play "lets pretend".

Who's to know? That cute 18 year old girl you are so in "love" with is most likely a 52 year old man. That's 17 year old boy who's just so awesome is most likely a 47 year old pedophile. On the Internet, anyone can be anyone they like and no one will know.

its true that its pretty easy to act like somebody you arent online. In GAMES though [I have experience in that aspect] sometimes there are more perks playing as a girl. [I AM a girl]
ie: guys will give you stuff because they want to be your 'bf' or whatever. It is kind of annoying though, because if you are really good at the game they wont believe you are female...which is upsetting..but I understand your point.

Not 60, but probably 6%. What possible gain would they get from pretending to be a female? Can't really help you in cyber sex unless you are gay or bi...hmmmmn.
