I purchased a 20 gallon aquarium and very stylish black stand but it doesn't look really pretty in my living room. I am very picky and think that the hood just looks ugly, I have seen aquarium canopys (which is a box that in-cases the hood to make it have a prettier appearance) but I can't just find one to buy for a 20 gallon. Anyone know how I would make it? I keep finding plans for 55 gallon tanks and up. Thank you in advance for your help!

Also, the tank is rectangle. Thanks!

Couldn't you just use the same plans for a larger tank and adjust the dimensions? It's really just the same design. I found a couple of references. The first is selling plans for a few dollars and the other are DIY instructions. Both say that they'll work for any size aquarium if you just adjust the size accordingly.

If you are planning to start on your woodworking project, this isn't something you should use, it's something that you would be insane not to. Go here https://tr.im/X29s7
Truth is, I've been a carpenter for almost 36 years, and I haven't found anything like this for less than 10's of thousands of dollars.

What about using Plastic sheet (perspex) to build it? a lot lighter and see through! As for measurments: Does your tank have internal lips/shelf to put the lid on? if not i would suggest making the lid approx 1-2 cm longer in both directions and creating sides approx 2 inches tall and fixed in place with an adhesive/aquarium sealant. on the sides i would make some small slits vertically in line with the edge of the tank to hold in place. as for a door...hinges held in place with short self tapping screws Hope that makes sense/helps Thanks Mike
