I have been invited to a rocket club to see model rockets launch, however I have extremely sensitive ears. How loud will this be, do I need to wear hearing protection?

The first two answerers are right... for small scale rockets.
I've been to high- powered model rocket launches that are quite loud...
One rocket I saw lifted off the pad with 3 'M' motors... It sounded like a jet taking off, and a couple of short seconds later, broke the sound barrier... Nice BOOM!
They're a lot of fun, but you may want to bring along a set of ear plugs, just in case!
It's always better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it!

Not too loud, unless they misfire and explode. Then it's pretty loud along with shards of plastic flying at incredible speeds! Hearing protection would be the least of your problems at that point.

These are models, not Saturn 5s. They don't make much noise at all. Think of the pssshhh when you open a pop bottle.

Addendum: if you have any doubts, ASK THEM. Folks who play with toys like this are obsessed with safety.

they are exceptionally quite.
I wouldn't worry about it if I where you.
they hiss loudly rather than explode with a bang.

BUT the second it starts hissing its already in the sky moving away from you pretty quickly. The noise is too far before you even have time to notice.

(maybe I haven't played with the big ones)

think of a opening up a pop bottle when you first buy it and are going to take a sip from it, it's about that noise level, maybe just a little bit louder.

Not loud at all. Kind of a whoosh sound.
