in days of our lives the new writer is currently writing the winner of i wanna be a soap star as a psychic leaving hints to marlena about john being alive
marlena and hope are conversing about it with hope all upset.
but when listening to their conversations its clear they have forgotten all about celeste, what she has said, done, proven true, and brought to the show over the last decade plus.
the new writer in trying to improve the show is insulting the memory/intelligence of its long term fans and is making marlena and hope look really stupid in the process.is it worth alienating the fans that will watch no matter what just to gain some new ones?
celeste said for months that the salem stalker victims were alive before and during the time the salem residents were seeing ghosts.you would think that they would remember this as it was only 2-3 years ago in real time much much less in soap time.
i'm having trouble being entertained when my intelligence is being mocked..anyone else ?

I hate when soaps do that. It's completely insulting to longtime viewers, and it flies in the face of the entire format of soaps. The very thing that sets the soap opera apart from other genres is its ability to create a reality that goes on for decades with events that build off each other as in real life. If they're just going to make things up on the fly instead of having them play out naturally onscreen, they might as well be writing a typical once-a-week 24-episodes-per-season primetime show.

The thing is that soap operas were built on famalies with long histories and the unique fact they air 5 days a week, all year allows them time to develop history so it is really a slap in the face to fans when a writer comes in an changes the history to propell a current story forward and makes the characters look stupid or they just forget about the history.

It's funny you say that. I can appreciate what you are saying. Yet, I feel like the show is totally appreciating the past. It's going non-stop backwards, reviving all kinds of old plots. Like they brought back Chloe and they got Stefano to come back and unleashed all that stuff about the vindetta against the Brady family.
However, what is better, to ignore the past or mask it over? Don't you hate when important people leave shows and are vaguely remembered at times like Christmas when they say so-and-so is in Europe doing this and that? Like Carrie and Austin and Billie? That is also annoying.

the funny thing about soaps are they are made to change and grow with the audience and some world events, age molds some characters but that is where the past stops in the soap world.
