Stars are only of any use if you can trade them in for beer or sexual favours.
As you cant, they are worth nothing and simply appeal to the children.

I wouldn't say they are star "hogs," because by hogging something, that implies somebody else is deprived, but I really don't see the point of posting a "question" like "Can you please give me a star? I want 100 stars."
Questions that are starred usually get more answers because they get more exposure amongst the contacts/fans of the person who starred.

i just figured starring was just a way of adding it to that list so that the people on your friends lists can see it - since you may have thought it was interesting, they may too?
