I'm 12 and I really like cars so I've been reading up on them. I had [Alfa Romeo 8C out in 08] in my MSN and some boy from my old school (i'm in year 8 now) goes to me 'OMG you think you know loads about cars but you don't'. So he then asked me what a gt3 was and I said it's a 911 or 977 or something like that.. you can't just have porsche gt3

There are a few versions of the GT3:
There is the 996 GT3, produced in 1999. This was available only as a Europen model. In 2003, an updated version was released which was available in the US.
These cars served as the basis for the early GT3 Cup cars (first available in 2000), and the GT3R (available to privateer race teams about the same time as the GT3 was introduced).
There was also a GT3RS (beleive it was introduced in 2004), which had a number of small differences. The differences were to take maximium advantage of GT Class rules in sports car racing, and this model was made as a basis for the GT3RSR racecar.
The current GT3 is the 997 GT3. As with the last version of the car, the basic street version is used as the basis for the GT3 Cup race version. The GT3RS is again made to maximize the potential of the GT3RSR racecar.
Each version has had more power and greater overall performance than the previous version.

yes.
The 911 has been around for over 40 years, so theyve updated it many times. The first one was called the 911, then they made a 911 turbo, which was model #930 (it was still called the 911 turbo though). They then updated the 911 to the 964 (still called 911), then to 993, then to 996, then to 997 which is the current generation. The GT3 is the track-oriented model of 911. there is also the GT2 (the meanest 911), the GT3 RS (the more hardcore GT3), the Turbo, and many normal 911s all under the 911 tree.
to put it simply, yes.

You see, you have to look at Porsche as if it is made up of categories. There is the boxster, the Cayenne, the Cayman, and the 911 series. the 911 series makes up some of the most famous of the Porsche models such as the Turbo, the Carrera, the Targa, and yes the GT3. The GT3 is simply a high end racing model of the 911 line. Make sense? The GT3 RS is simply a suped up version of the normal GT3. Anyone who buys the GT3 RS is probably likely to drive it on the track. I hope this helps. Just remember, Porsche is made up of categories. That will make it much easier to classify and remember them all.

Yeah a Porsche 911 GT3 is the same as a GT3, also you could call it a 977 (which is basically saying the modern kind of 911) GT3.
Hope I helped you :P

Yes. The GT3 is a track car. I like the Porsche Turbo more because it is more of a street car. But then again, the new Nissan GT-R costs half as much and is faster than both cars (faster on track and hs a 0-60 time of 3.2 seconds). Oh, and it has a usable rear seat.
