So I got an X-Box 360 for christmas and set up an X-Box Live Silver account. So, if I upgrade to X-Box live Gold then I have to get separate points in order to download maps and other stuff? That stuff doesnt come with the 50.00 for Live?

You do not need to upgrade to Gold in order to get those maps and such. You will find some things in the Marketplace for free, and others for points. You can still access the Marketplace as a Silver member. The Gold membership simply allows you to play most games over Xbox Live.

It would be nice if they gave us more for free simply because we are a Gold member, but that is all we get for now, an opportunity to play with our friends.

The points are totally seperate from the gold membership (by the way you have 30 days of gold free with your new xbox live account). You can use them to buy maps, xbox live arcade games, etc. It does not come with the Live gold subscription.

no, you pay the money for your gold account, but you have to pay for microsoft points seperately. Those dont come included. Gold isnt needed to download stuff though
