Some people say that the USSR (Soviet Union) dated from about 1920 to about 1990. Please help me out.

The USSR officially existed from 1922 to 1991.
However the exact number of years depends on the historian due to the Russian Civil War (1918-1921) in which the country was torn between the Bolsheviks (communists or reds) and those who opposed them (anti-Bolsheviks or whites). Some historians classify the communist era from when they first took power (1918) while others classify it as when they took absolute control (1922).

The Russian Revolution began in 1917. When they killed Nicholas Romanov and his family. It ended with the destruction of the Berlin Wall in 1988.
