maybe it's because you feel you might start your period while you are sleeping, and then wake up to bloody bed or bloody underwear. What I do right before my period is due, I wear a panty shield until my period does come, this prevents "accidents" and I'm ready in case it comes when I'm not home or asleep. Also, some people feel nausea from starting their period, or have bad cramps which can keep you awake, There are a number of reasons, but your're normal.
