Because the coal and oil industry dictate US energy policy to protect their own interests and stifle competition.

Why do you think we haven't had a single new nuclear power plant in 30 years? Or, did you buy the BS that, during that period, dominated by the neoconservatives, the environmentalists somehow managed to stop an entire major industry in its tracks and keep it stopped all this time?

Especially when most environmentalists arne't opposed to nuclear power pre se--they jsut wanted the safety issues addressed (which they have been).

Then there's solar and wind, among other technologies. The government hands the coal industry billions in tax breaksand under Bush, doesn't even have to obey mine safety or air pollution laws. But s there any real supportfor solar power and research. Or wind turbines?

Because ignorant people are still terrified of the cleanest, safest, cheapest form of energy there is: nuclear energy.

No American has ever died from nuclear energy. Not one. Ever.

But millions have died due to the pollution caused by the coal burning power plants.

You tell me which is safer!

Happy New Year!

We have abundant coal supplies. It's that simple.

Even if you limit emissions further, we will have coal power because even clean coal technology is cheap.

Because, luckily, coal is there for us to use. And, enough people are fearful of nuclear power to have killed that industry. When coal is killed off too, winters will be colder and summers hotter and people fewer.

Because the environmentalist lobby will not allow us to build any more nuclear power plants. That is the single best way to provide electricity without increasing our "carbon footprint", but no one is talking about it.

Because it is a good fuel for steam turbine power generation systems. And it is safer to transport than oil and natural gas.
