It has been proved lately that other countries are better at basketball (i.e. Argentina, Spain). Also, it is a fact that there is no world involved on the NBA championship since it is only North American countries (US and Canada). So, why call the winner a World Champion?!

I agree with you.
Any World Champion would have to be determined by the Olympics and international rules for the game, however they've been in the habit of saying such things not simply for sensational value alone, but because there is truth to it. We attract the best level of players around the world simply because the sport has a system in the U.S. that cycles the $$$$$$$$ for them, aka the NBA. So they consider them world champs because they are the champions of the "richest / most competitive" league as a whole.
It is bad for the American perception abroad however, to use sayings like "World Champions", etc. It reflects the idea of their arrogance.

They used to call the NBA champs as world champions because the NBA is generally regarded as the premier professional league in the world. I agree w/ the idea however that the real world champions should be decided in the Olympics or the FIBA World Championships.
However I noticed that the NBA seems to have dropped the term "world champions" as of late. I've seen pictures of the Spurs' banners and they no longer say "world champions." Their championship t-shirts don't say it either (see attached link).

America uses the term world champion in most professional competition because this nation likes to think we accept the best from around the world to play on our teams, like the NBA.
Professional basketball scouts around the world to get the best, some notable foreign players include Hakeem Olajuwon, Dikembe Mutumbo, and Vlade Divac. Again, America takes up the whole land of opportunity concept, and diversity to be able to say a team is the world champion.

The NBA takes the best basketball players from around the world. For example, Yao Ming from China, Manu Ginobili from Argentina, Tony Parker from France, etc.

You are kidding right? Do you really believe that the over all level of play in any other country is more elite than in the United States? Your thoughts and your question lead me to believe that you are not American. Which is the reason why you feel the way you do.

Because NBA is international, they have asians, europeans, etc. so think this is why they call it world champs because they have the best of the best. if so, why can't they call it IBA(international basketball association)
