No, I just told my family and friends to pretend I was some unwanted trash and dump me on the side of the freeway as that would be the American way anyway. And besides, I wouldn't be there so it wouldn't matter.

Good idea to have your final plans made. It saves a lot of stress on a grieving family, to not have to do any of that if it is already in place. Best way to find out is to call an area funeral home and get some prices. There are different plans for different areas.

When my father died, it was about $800. for cremation, but we did not buy an urn, his ashes were scattered. A friend whose mother died had an urn that was selected by her mother many years before, and actually used for a flower vase until the day it was needed!

My husband and I have had life insurance since we were in our 20s; plenty of funds to cover any costs related to our death. As of now we both plan on cremation, a simple memorial service, and to have our ashes buried under a tree at the cemetary near our house. However, we've not purchase plots, and have never considered doing so because we may not be living here at the time of our deaths....things change over time. Our daughters and parents are aware of our wishes.

Full funerals, with service and burial run from $6000.00 to $12,000.00 or more in my area. Cremations run between $500.00 and a few thousand dollars, depending on how the ashes are dealt with.

We have considered the natural burials too. No embalming is done, and simple containers are used without vaults. There are none of these type of cemetaries available near our home, at least not yet.

This is not a horrible question and this is the perfect place to ask it. I think it is wonderful to have some of these details worked out before they are necessary. Save the family a lot of time and money. My daughter works in Hospice and so was able to tell us of a "Low Cost" funeral service when my father died earlier this year. We were able to save thousands of dollars and yet have everything we and he wanted. I think it's important that your family know of your wishes so that they don't plan a funeral based on guilt which is why people end up spending so much, usually. I'm certain you can call around for local prices. Just be aware that even if you prepay your funeral, many places find ways to tack on plenty of extra expenses when the family goes to settle the account. The funeral business is a big money maker, at least in the US.

Yes, I chose to be cremated, less expensive. I am not there anyway, so I don't see what difference it makes one way or the other. My daughter opposes my decision but she better abide by it. My Dad wanted to be cremated but my Mom did not let that happen. My feelings, we should honor the requests of the living in respond to burial. As far as funeral expenses, I have a plot already and will have only graveside services and a place to put my ashes by my departed members.

Funerals are far the living, not the dead. Just my feelings.

I never checked on cremation, but after burying both my parents, I know how costly just a "regular" funeral can be. I have bought a plot beside my parents, but the rest of the expense will have to come out of my estate. You can prepay your funeral, so you should contact a funeral home to find out the cost of cremation in your area.

I have insurance to cover them and my spouse and children know what I want. Cremation costs will be approximately $1000 depending on what type of container you choose. If you want to buy a niche to put the urn in at a mausoleum, the cost goes up greatly. You can prepay and prearrange a funeral to ensure you get what you want and save your family the trouble. Its one final gift that you can give to them.

A funeral and burial is about $6000 minimum. A cremation is about $600.

As for me, I don't even want an urn. I told my kids to take my ashes out to the Atlantic Ocean and dump. I'll haunt them forever if they bury me in this lousey state.

When my brother died, he was cremated for about $600. I paid about $200 for the urn, we were going to bury him (his ashes) between my parents graves, but the cost for burying an urn was $750! That was 14 years ago too. My sister told me to break in to the cemetery at night and bury the urn, I refused to do this (Miami, Santeria people!, yikes) I scattered his ashes in places that he loved instead

?

Cremations run about $750 here in Central Texas where I reside and the urns vary in price. I am spending my kids inheritance while I'm still around and they can do with me as they want.

Mix me into the sand on Parde Island.

Well, I told my children to cremate me and then put the ashes under a bush or tree or wherever. That seems the least expensive and most environmentally kind method. Not to be morbid, but I enjoy walking in the old cemetery in my town with the beautiful trees, bushes, and flowers. I honor the dead by reading their gravestons and thinking about their life and times. But I have no need for that myself. My mother-in-law died about five years ago. She was so considerate. She'd prepaid for her cremation and burial years before.
