For a 13 year old female student to say "I love you (name)" to a former female teacher? And would it be appropriate for the teacher to say "I love you too (name)" back? Just curious..not that the two were linked romantically or anything but they were just close in a student/teacher kinda way. Like if the student looked upon this teacher as a role model or inspiration. What do you think?

Keyword FORMER teacher..so it's not like favortism would play a part in the situation vs. other students the same age.

I mean considering the girl was a student of this teacher in elementary school (6th grade) there was some love shown in the classroom I'm sure because of the age level.

In such a situation, I think it's perfectly appropriate.

EDIT: I had a mentor throughout highschool....my honors English instructor....who played an integral part in helping me get into Emmerson. At graduation, I got her a card and in it I wrote " Thank you so much for everything! I love you always!" I got one back from her that read similar. It is rediculous to assume any wrongdoing when a same-sex teacher had has a strong positive effect on the child......not to mention, 13 year olds throw the word 'love' around like it's nothing.....the paranoia astounds me.

its not the fact its student and teacher... its the age of the student...

I have no problems with young teacher (early 20s)and students over 16 or very close to turning 16 forming realtioships if the teacher no longer marks the students work on the bases they could have met out clubbing or in a party.

13 is too young

Well if there was no type of romance I think its ok. My kids principal was very lovely to the kids at the school she just died last week. And she would hug the kids and she was always about the kids. Plus my daughter still keeps in contact with her former teacher I dont think its bad unless you feel that there is something going on.

I had/have a close relationship with my female 5th grade homeroom teacher. She was like a second mother to me. I think that is appropriate and not uncalled for.

After being in school for 20 or so years, I have to say that it is odd. I had great respect for some of my teachers/professors, but I never told them I loved them. I've told them I've admired them...but I hardly use that word love, except with my family.

I don't think it is a good idea. That is fraternization, which is a big no-no for anyone in a teaching or authoritative position.

If it was my daughter, I wouldn't think it was very appropriate. I think that it's good to have a good relationship with a teacher, but it shouldn't get that close. There should be a definitely line.
