Whenever I turn on the TV I see loads of documentaries by loons like David Icke and Bob Lazar who believe that UFOs are piloted by little green men, but are there actually any serious scientists who believe this?
Has any "real" scientist ever published a serious paper in a science journal supporting the belief that UFOs are alien spacecraft? Or even given a speech in support of the idea?
If so, I'd really like to know which issues. I'd even like to know if any of the have published a serious peer reviewed paper against the idea.

Less of the bickering please. I'm not interested in whose right and whose wrong, only in knowing which EDUCATED people have given serious thought to the matter, either for it or against it. Surely some astronomer has written a paper on why it's impossible or some aerospace engineer has written one saying that it is possible?
I can't believe that such a popular topic in fiction doesn't peak the interest/annoyance of at least some scientists.
So far Sagan is the best candidate. Can anybody give me some examples of his work?

Most serious scientists won't try to understand the
Quantum Enigma..yet it's there starring us all right in the face. When humans don't understand something, they ignore it or try to explain it away and poke fun at others who want to study it. Scientists love their grants and will follow their skeptical brethren over the cliff of ignorance. Space travel is relatively simple with the proper fuel element and mechanical apparatus. Some lifeforms other than ourselves could unify the four forces of nature couldn't they? Are we so arrogant that we think we are alone in a possibly infinite universe? Quantum physics gives us multiple dimensions and the enigma of conscientiousness manipulating reality. Doesn't the superposition of a micro particle collapse it's wave function as soon as we observe it? Only a fool thinks our five senses give us proof of universal reality. We are more than the sum of our parts and so is the universe.
Here is something for all your towering intellects to think about . The only reason Magic is just a fantasy in books and movies is because nothing we can imagine is impossible. We don't need magic in that case.....do we.

♠ Serious scientists (like physicists, astronomers or anthropologists) do not believe that UFOs are really alien spaceships.
♣ No "real" scientist ever published a serious paper in a science journal supporting the belief that UFOs are alien spacecraft. Nor even given a speech in support of the idea.
▬ however !!! humans are humans.
♠ there are a few celebrities – people of arts, philosophers, and some other humanitarians, who believe in UFOs and aliens, being far from natural sciences themselves.
♣ moreover I know a great mathematician who states that all History of mankind is faked, and after his own ‘investigations’ on the subject he wrote several books of “real” History.
▬ Real confusion comes when a good baker thinks he’s a good tailor, too; and a good tailor thinks he’s a good baker, too.
--as for /mriches2/ above – he’s just joking to scare you;
--as for /brittons/ he’s just scattering a “scientific” BS;
▬ Yes, EDUCATED people have given much serious thought to the matter and Proved there’s still no any slightest evidence of aliens at all!

NO THEY ARE NOT SPACESHIPS. I looked into it and I think the most logical reason why the government would cover it up and why it looks the way it does is because of the shape of a Stealth Fighter. Something that was testing in the same area as the alleged sightings. I know that some people need to believe in something to have a purpose in life. I guess it is at least better than religion in that it hasn't lead to any wars yet, but if you think about it the premise is the same. People believing in something totally out there that can never really be proven and people made to believe it. That is what I think. UFO=Deadbeat stoner hallucinations.

Are there serious scientists that believe there is extraterrestrial life? Absolutely. That believe some of those civilizations are more advanced than us? Sure. That they may have observed and possibly visited us? Yep.
I'll throw out a name .... Carl Sagan.
A project to gather information .... SETI
Without a crashed spacecraft or an alien in hand, you're unlikely to find peer reviewed articles in a scientific publication ... but without knowing or searching for specific references ... I can say that I wouldn't be surprised if there weren't some published investigations.
Given the climate of ridicule, where even well respected pilots refuse to file official siting reports, it's not surprising that few "reputable" scientists are willing to put their careers on the line by serious investigations.

I can''t give examples of Sagan but I'd not go by what he has said anyway.
The truth is it would be impossible for humans to be the only so called intelligent beings in the Universe. Even in our Oceans, we have intelligence smarter than humans according to Scientists which is the Dolphin being claimed now to be smarter than humans but with totally different abilities and desires other than love and companionship..
To even believe there are not highly intelligent beings on billions of different planets in the Universe would be like thinking the earth is flat, sitting up on pillars like the Bible claims. It is highly likely there are many in our own Galaxy smarter than humans and many just starting out and the number of Galaxies is so large, numbers are not known. There is even a change in our own Solar System there are intelligent beings but if there are, they are not likely from our Solar System. We are probably the only beings in our Solar System, natural to this system at this time but that doesn't mean there were not intelligent beings on Mars or even earth before we came along.Some scientists believe we are actually from Mars.
There is a high probability we are being watched and or have or are being visited but that is not certain. The only thing certain is there are many highly intelligent beings in the Universe. To think humans are all there is would be the human Ego and some form of Religious Delusion. They used to believe the speed of light was the speed limit but that has been broken three times now thus; light is speed limit of light yet rather slow compared to other things. 186tmh rounded in a V is rather slow and we will eventually send an unmanned ship into Space to meet and break that speed. Likely in the next 30 years.

I tend to fully agree w/ Sagan's notion that there surely IS a human-like intellegent race of beings somewhere in this vast universe. Problem is: they're too far to reach us as we are for them.
You may not find many respected scientists openly disclose they believe in UFOs--but you can bet they hold some very secret and interesting theories that don't rule out their existance!!
UFO's have been well documented by witnesses going back to the early parts of man's recorded history. And this lends the possibility that UFOs are in fact NOT piloted by otherworldly beings.....but they may be piloted by US: humans advanced thousands of years into the FUTURE.
Think about it: who's to say that 3,000 years or so from now, we don't have the techonology to physically propel living beings BACK in time? Because the future's NOT set, but historically--the past is....least on OUR current plane of existance it is as we KNOW it to be.
Yes, I realize the theory sounds wacked--which is why not many scientists are willing to bring up the theory. I'd respect anyone who does, but don't see it really happening. But you can bet they got the math written down to prove it CAN be done; we just don't know yet HOW to.

As someone who works with crazy stuff (nuclear physics), i would say 99% of Ufos are manmade. We have some really crazy technology that hasn't been released to the public yet. We had stealth technology 20 yrs before the public knew about it. We have had anti-gravity technology for 15 yrs now, they do some really really cool stuff with it, especially at los alamos. I expect they will release it to the public within 10 yrs, maybe. They have also had the technology to make objects invisible for quite sometime, its really cool they mess with the air around the object causing the lightwaves to speedup around the object, I don't think the general public will get to know about this for a while. Also at los alamos they have created holographic "wormholes", for lack of a better word, which allow matter to travel crazy huge distances almost instantly. I'm just a grad student so I don't get to know all of the cool stuff, but from what i've seen we definately have created aircraft which fit the description of UFO's.

The problem about Unindentifiable Flying Objects is that as soon as a Scientist identifies a UFO its no longer a UFO.

While I do not know of any, I do know that there are scientists that do believe in UFOs. If there were not, then we would not be spending the money that we do trying to find them, and civilizations among the stars. Project Blue Book, as well as Project Grudge gave sufficient evidence that would strongly suggest that not all of the "UFO" sightings were something else in the sky.
