I live in the outskirts of Augusta right now and it isn't bad. They hold the Masters' golf tournament here, so it brings in some good revenue each year. The housing is dirt cheap compared to the rest of the country. I have a 1650 sq ft house in a decent suburb with a pretty big lot and it was under 100G. If you like the city life, Atlanta is the obvious choice. If you're more into historical housing, check out Savannah. It's beautiful there, but a little bit on the higher end as far as price goes.

Cartersville (in the Bartow County area) is actually a pretty good place to live. It's not terribly expensive to live there, and it's a short commute to Kennesaw, Atlanta, and Chattanooga for job and / or entertainment purposes.
Macon is also good, for the same reasons. Not expensive, short commute to Atlanta (a bit of a stretch for Savannah, though), and Macon actually has a pretty well-established business sector (whereas Cartersville's is still kinda developing) if you don't want to commute.
Also, if you're planning on raising kids wherever it is that you settle, consider either Cartersville or Macon, depending on what careers you may want them to go into. Cartersville is in close proximity to Berry, a good college for teaching degrees, and Kennesaw State, which is good for teaching, nursing, journalism, criminal justice, etc.
Macon is actually host to Mercer University, one of the best-known private colleges in the South. They're good for almost anything, especially medicine and law (or other professional degrees), and they offer both the undergraduate and graduate sections of these degrees. Mercer is very prestigious, but they can be pretty expensive.

I recommend moving to Peachtree City. In my opinion it is a nice suburban town with a rural feel. I used to live in Newnan. I do not recommend living anywhere in Coweta County. It is too rural for anyone trying to get out of the city. Neither do I recommend living in Atlanta, itself. I visited there before it had a closed in feeling to it. Of course that is only one Georgian girl's thoughts. I will say this though, if you are planning to move to Peachtree City than you should expect the price to be a little higher than you may have desired to spend at first.

I live in the Alpharetta/Roswell/Norcross area, and I'm pretty happy here. There are places that are less city and more country....it just depends on what you prefer. To give you an idea, though, 1 BR apartments around here range from $650 to $800 a month. Mostly closer to 700 something. Hope this helps! Welcome to the Peach State!
