I'm a foreign student here. English reading and listening are not hard to improve but I find that speaking is rather difficult to learn by self. If I encounter a word but do not know the exact pronunciation, what is the easiest way to find it? I have dictionaries but they are Britain-English based.

So is there any CDs, Website, Media, Tools, or other methods to know the American pronunciation of each word I encounter? Dictionary may be good but I think the "real" sound could help me "really" understand what the pronunciation is.

Thank you very much and Happy New Year!

For the most part, the difference between the pronunciation of British and American English is accent. If you pronounce your words British-style, most Americans will understand you and find it charming. But if you want to sound more like an American, just keep your ears open. It will come!

You'll just have to ask someone if you're really stumped. Pronounce it and ask them is that the proper pronounciation. 9 out of 10 it'll be wrong and they'll gladly show you how to pronounce it so that you don't sound out of the loop. I have the same issue in French sometimes
