Before my pregnancy (with twins) I weighed 135 pounds and they were born at 33 weeks and I weighed around 210 pounds. Within 2-3 weeks I was less than 10 pounds away from my starting weight. I developed pre-eclampsia so a lot of my weight in the end was water weight. The last 3 days I gained close to 15 pounds. My weight; however continues to be a battle, but sounds to me like you have a plan. I don't think you'll have any problem between breastfeeding and 5k and 10ks. Good luck!!

I was told to gain 25 - 35 lbs., but was basically of normal weight when I got pregnant (maybe 10 lbs. overweight according to the BMI thing but not much). Most doctors say that overweight women should gain 15 - 25 lbs. It was my goal to gain no more than 25 lbs. while I was pregnant, and I didn't. I lost about 15 lbs. upon delivery, and another 4 - 5 within a few days. My body is less than 10 lbs. above my pre-pregnancy weight now and I am 5 days postpartum. I am having trouble eating because of stress and also just busy with a newborn, so I am losing pretty quickly. In another week or so I will start exercising (walking mostly) and doing sit ups to repair my traumatized tummy muscles. I am already thinner than I was pre-pregnancy because my weight has shifted around. I just have a pouchy belly left. The thing about weight gain, though, is that every woman is programmed to gain different amounts. A woman I know gained almost 50 lbs., but lost 30 within days because her baby was so big and she retained so much water. My SIL was very overweight and ended up losing weight while she was pregnant, and losing more afterwards. You never know. Hopefully you will lose most of your weight after you have your baby. Breast feeding will help a lot with that too. Good luck!

With my 1st I was overweight at 216 pounds and 5'3" - I lost 16 pounds during the first half and gained back those same 16 pounds at the end of my pregnancy so I never went over 216. 6 weeks after giving birth I weighed 184 pounds and I breastfed too. I'm 23 weeks pregnant w/ #2 and weighed 214 and I'm now down to 206. I think I might start gaining weight now - I'll find out on Jan 3rd. By the way, my doctor monitored my weight change so it was safe for me because my baby and stomach grew just my thighs and butt went a way a little bit. I ate healthier and cut out sodas and chips and bad foods. Good luck!

So you've gained 50 pounds. I gained 35 pounds with each of my 2 pg. With each I lost all but 5 pounds so now I'm 10 pounds over my pre-pg weight. Obviously that 5 lbs was just laziness on my part but it's not unusual for women to never achieve their pre-pg weight because of laziness!
But don't despair. In the delivery room you are guaranteed to lose about 15 pounds (baby= 7, placenta= 7). In the next 2 weeks you will lose water weight, blood weight, and other uterine matter which will amount to 5-10 pounds. As long as you eat right from day 1 and don't over-splurge on all the cookies and candy that people love to give as hospital gifts you should be able to lose 25-30 pounds without even trying.
That still leaves you with those extra 20 pounds but keep your goal in mind and you can do it. Weight Watchers helps...

I gained 70 pounds when I was pregnant. My son just turned a year old and I still have 30 pounds to go. Breastfeeding didn't help me lose weight at all. I was exercising really good up until he was about 6 months old and was able to lose the 40 pounds within that time. Rememer though you're not supposed to exercise at all until 6 weeks after the baby and then you have to take things very slow otherwise you can really hurt yourself. So I wouldn't plan too many things just yet. Plus not getting much sleep and not having time to eat after baby hurts the losing weight process as well. Good luck though

i would say from experience with my baby boy last year weight loss is a slow process. I am still trying to lose weight and it has now been a full year. It wont take forever to lose the weight, but your body has had a little one in your tummy and you have to (one) give your self time to heal from the inside out whether you have your baby vaginally or a c-section. (two)You will need lots of rest either way. The best bet is to take it slow instead of jumping into excercising soon after. You also will lose wieght breastfeeding as well if you do it for a few months. This is also great for baby! :) Just eat a balanced diet, excercise gradually once you're healed and your body will slowly take back shape versus trying to lose it all quickly and ending up with extra skin. Good luck :)

Wowie! That's a lot of weight...you poor thing! Sounds like you have a good plan though!
I'm only 20 weeks and I've gained 9 pounds so far, but I was big to begin with. After I have this baby I hope to be able to get myself to weigh less than what I did when I started.
Good luck and congratulations!!
