I recently got my son a laptop for Christmas, Ive ordered the DSL in which I have still yet to recieve for the internet axcess. However, someone has told me that you can pay like $30.00 for a card and use it and not even have to have a home phone service for it. I know there are wireless internet services available, and I am finding it cheaper to get the DSL and the basic home phone, but is there a cheaper way out?

The home service and DSL is going to be cheaper than a wireless card and because the wireless cards use cell phone towers the home DSL is going to be a lot faster. Almost all new laptops have WiFi (wireless card) built in. Once you get your DSL modem you hook it to a wireless router with a cat5 (Ethernet) cable than hook your desktop to one of the ports in the router with a cat5 wire and go into the router settings using Internet explorer and set it up, make sure you turn on the wireless security and set up a password so other people can't hook up to your Internet. Then go into the network settings on the laptop and run the wireless setup wizard and set it up with your password and your set.

Depends on what you are going to use it for.

If you want internet anywhere, and are not concerned about the speed, then the wireless card (the cell phone tower one, not a wi-fi card) is the best choice, because you can pretty much use it anywhere you can get a cell phone signal.

However the DSL is much better in general, because it is faster for a cheaper price. It also splits the phone lines, so it won't take up your phone.

Of course you can only use that internet when the laptop is at home.
