If you are bored and feel like writing - don't make it a book. You will never stick with it. Write short stories. How about character studies of people you know in a diary form? Start with your mother. That is an assignment I give to students I teach. From the sound of your post, you aren't ready for a novel.

They're, Their, There - Three Different Words.
Careful or you may wind up in my next novel.

Take a classic idea, and twist it.
* The wicked witch from Oz comes to Kansas, and becomes a business mogul.
* Mata Hari faked her death, married a British Earl, and became a novelist.
* Jack The Ripper was Oscar Wilde
* Cinderella hates her new life, as the Prince is always cheating/beating on her or going off to war, or out drinking with the boys. The Wicked Step Mother-finally rid of the whiner Cinderella-is the truly happy one, now that she has the house to herself, and can entertain rich nobles...who give her generous gifts.
* The French won The French & Indian War, and run America today. The French King fled here, in exile, during the revolt in France, and American French remained loyal. Today America has a King, and France is a colony of The French American Empire.

The easy way is to write about something you already know and/or enjoy. But to get the best out of the writing write on something you want to know more about or something as sci-fi that wold require you to do some research. This would take more time and help with your boredom and you would get more out of it.

There are all kinds of books to write,
historical romance novels, how to books, murder/mysteries, horror, thrillers, childrens books,
but it depends on what interests you the most. If you going to write the book and actually finish it you have to be interested in the topic.

You should probably stick to a subject toy know something about. But research for your topic could be a good learning experience. Maybe you could write short stories about things that have happened to you, trips you have taken, or people in your life.

Try a desk or a table.
But if you don't know what to write about, don't write.
