so im a freshman in high school and it seems that my life right now isnt getting any better. what i once consider to be a highlight in life is now a big disappointment~~high school is horrible! i have a few close friends and i have a great family and life but i still dont know what the problem is. maybe i reminisce about life as a kid and i now reliaze that now my childhood is over and im now ready for adulthood. i just wish I could either turn back time and stay a kid for the rest of my life or fast forward time and live life as an adult in my 20s or 30s. are there any people here that have gone through what im going through and if so...does life get any better after high school?

I am one of those guys who did not "enjoy" high school either. I had a few friends, but it all seemed very artificial to me. Most of my peers were petty, narrow-minded, self-centered and in a word, spoiled. When I got to college it was like "where have you people been all my life?" It was such a refreshing change. I also have done better in the career world, so high school was not "the best years of my life." I would say--this too shall pass--but you might be able to do some things in the short run to take the sting out of HS. Try to find a group or club in something which interests you, preferably with other HS students, and join it. It doesn't have to be tied to the school, but if it is, so much the better. Get involved, but of course, don't let your studies suffer. If the work is truly overwhelming you ask for help. Talk to the teacher or a school counselor about tutoring if you need it. It shows a sign of maturity if you see your limits and try to get help, It sounds like you generally do well, that is a plus in the long run--it will serve you well, even if it is not noticeable right now. Keep your chin up, it will get better.

It all depends on your perspective. Your feelings of wanting to remain a child or fast-forward are understandable, but the biggest part of the "fun" in life is the journey, not the destination. So don't be in too much of a rush to grow up, and don't get yourself into Peter Pan syndrome (where you never want to grow up). Your attitude makes all the difference. If you say to yourself "I hate high school and I can't wait to get out" then your high school experience will be miserable. But if you say "I'm going to make the best of my high school years and enjoy being a kid while I still can" then you'll find your high school years are much more enjoyable.

P.S.: Yes, I was very much like you when I went to high school. Looking back, it wasn't as terrible as I made it out to be at the time. Life after high school isn't better or worse -- it's different. Again, your attitude will make all the difference. Don't get so wrapped up in what you had as a child or what you look forward to having as a 30-year-old that you forget to live today and take advantage of all life has to offer you right now. Life can be a great adventure or it can be a great burden -- would you rather be like Indiana Jones or the pack-mule that hauls all his gear? You only get one shot at this game called life, so give it your best.

According to life cycles, the ages between 14 and 21 are positive. Between 21 and 28 things aren't so great and you might be shocked from the contrast. The negative cycle that moved between 7 and 14 wasn't so noticeable because you had nothing to compare it to, since 0 to 7 you were a baby. I guess 21 to 28 is an introduction to adult life that's intended to wake you up to the fact that survival is the name of the game.

Being confined to having to go to school between 14 to 21 perhaps interferes with dealing with the next 7 years negative cycle, having been more or less sheltered and not developing the skills to know how to play with others on a more skilled basis than just how you deal with kids in school. And there's not a lot of time to play when you have to do homework, neither.

God's evolution probably had something else in mind when it designed these cycles. Good luck.

Right now, you're the FNG (F***ing New Guy). Anywhere you go, being the FNG sucks.

Life getting better during and after high school all depends on you. If you're a dirtbag and you get crappy grades and don't give yourself a future, life will probably suck, since you'll likely be the guy who's worked at the gas station on the corner every day since graduating high school 10 years ago. Make the best of the current moment, and all of the moments afterward will be better.

Try not to think about some other place or some other time being better than what you have, it will only bring you misery. Enjoy what you have.

I get how you feel, you are just ready to move on and have more control over things. Do enjoy your high school years while you can. If you need something to spice it up look at taking a college class or two. If you want to graduate a year early you could take your next year of english over the summer. I had friends that did that, and I wish I had. I got married right after high school and my live has been up and down. I do wish I had taken more college classes and now going back is harder than I expected. If you plan on going to college know it will be somewhat like high school. You still have to go to class to get the grades to pass. I know being in high school is nothing like you expected it to be. I think its kinda sad the people who thought high school was the best years of their life. I was bored with it most of the time. Anyway good luck, take your time being a teenager.

Some people are never happy wherever they are in life.
Whether its location or job, or school or age, its always something.
Staying a kid would be colossally boring, I liked being and adult much better.
I like the independence and I didn't have that as a teen.
I certainly didn't have it as a kid.
You are lucky, you have some good solid things like a good family, you can't just order up one of those, and that stays with you for your whole life, if you don't have a good family you can't get one and then you have to go and make one of your own. Its not always better or worse, but life is always interesting.
I liked my forties the best BTW, I really had a good time then, a job I loved, good kids, and grand kids, great husband. Even my favorite car.
I'm sixty now, so I have a bit of perspective and its all as good as you make it. At any age.

I am 24 years old...and no matter who you are I think everyone wishes they could go back to being a child again. Less responsibilities..less expectations. I wish I could go back and redo high school over again. I know it seems like your childhood life is over but it still isn't. High school can feel the way you described or it can be an exciting journey. You get to date, get to find your first job, go to prom, do sports and do alot more than you could growing up. I would honestly put the dating thing aside for now. I would go out there and experience all you can in school with the extra curricular activities finding good friends to hang out with and study with. Trust me when I say you will have a much better time if you focus on doing stuff and staying busy rather than just going to school and thats it. You will actually have time to sit and think about how miserable it is. Trust me I know. I wish I had kept myself busy that whole time rather than letting my own depression getting in the way. So...have fun and good luck!

Every year in high school should increasingly get better. That's not saying very much because I hated it to, but it did get better. Your senior year should be the best and you'll actually enjoy that, but college is a blast so make sure that you study in school and get into a decent college where you can move away from home for awhile. If your not enjoying it at least try and set yourself up for the future or you'll end up like you are now after high school. Good luck!

I think you remember being a kid. When you're young, you strive to grow up and be mature, without realizing that what you are doing at the moment is great. When you graduate high school, the same thing will happen. You will reminisce about how great high school was. This is one of the trends in life.

I'm a sophomore in Highschool and trust me after your freshman year things get better, so don't doubt upon it right now.

Freshmen year is the hardest, because you just got out of middle school (well where I live it goes like that) and people pick on you because your the "Youngest" in the whole school.

No worries, once you get past freshmen year, people won't be riding you so much. Sophomore year is still hard, but you learn to have more fun.

I'm sure It'll get way better your Junior and Senior year...So Just sit back, relax, and enjoy the last years of Highschool you have ;)
