If you have straight A's you might not be number one. For example, I know a girl named Ana. She has straight A's, but has regular classes. Another girl, Janelle, has straight A's and is in the honors program. I have good grades, usually 5 A's and a B. I'm in the honors program. My GPA is 4.0, Janelle's is 4.144, and Ana's is 4.0. Janelle is number one in the class of 2010. I'm number four, and Ana isn't in the top ten. Why? She doesn't take honors classes, so her rank is automatically lower than the students in the honors program.

GPA and class rank are two different things. Class rank just tells you where the child stands in comparison with other student's GPA's. If she is a straight A student then i'm sure she is likely in the top 10%.

Sometimes its printed in the report card. Or you could ask at the school office. Depends how many people are ahead of her. Some schools have classes with "extra special weight" which may give people GPAs higher than 4.0.
