Why is it that our baggage is checked for security in air travel, but not in trains?

Doesn't the same security risk etc apply?

It is about the risk - take down an airliner and you can kill 300 plus people plus more on the ground. On a train, even the biggest bomb could probably only take out 100 plus...

You also can't run a train into a building and knock it down...
