Whenever I go to his house he has these little hors d'oeuvres set out, and there are always mini mozzarella balls. They taste like water, they have no flavor whatsoever. How do I tell him he should get better quality balls, without sounding like a spoiled idiot?

Bring some good one's with you and offer them a taste and tell them what a good they are for the price.
