I asked a question about Katrina (1st mistake) and I got all these answers shouting about how Democrats screwed everything up.

Evidently, people don't like Ray Nagin.

But the thing is - nobody actually answered my question, really.

Why can't we ask questions about 9/11 and Katrina without a bunch of people jumping in to blame Bush or the Democrats and thumbing everyone else down?

Are we really that uncivilized?

And why can't some Republicans understand that criticisms of Bush or the Government does not translate to pot-shots at Republicans or America in general?

I was told that "the facts wouldn't fit my agenda" instead of just being given the facts.

Because America is an incredibly competitive society. Everything has to be about picking sides. Half the time people don't even know why they pick sides -- but they fight for their side to the death. Take most sports for instance. There's not quantifiable reason why one team should be preferred over another except for geography. But, I've seen two grown men nearly come to blows over two football teams that neither lived near, or ever visited those cities.

Or a few years back there were many discussions over which was better, "Lord of the Rings" or "Star Wars." People would choose a side and fight until their fingers were raw from typing. Yet, it never occurred to them that they could like both. That they didn't have to choose.

Sure, our government has made its mistakes and yes, maybe some of the horrible things that have happend could have been avoided. However, when it comes to 911 it comes down to a rogue group of indeviduals trying to make a point. What did that get them? War. As far as Katrina is concerned, I am convinced that many things were done wrong, certainly the help of getting people out of there or supplies in. It could have been handled better. I could care less if someone wants to place the blaim on the Dems. or Repubs... its easy to point a finger... where where we? If we did not get off our butts to help, why should we be mad that someone else did the same as us (by the way 911 happened 30 min from my home, I lost many people I loved and I helped in any way I could). You are right, people would rather point a finger than sit and talk about the issues. Good luck.

You are an intelligent individual by the way you address your questions to the Yahoo! Q & A. Some individuals can not handle intelligent questions, therefore you can expect answers from out in left field. You have to understand that these individuals comes from all walks of life, in all shapes, forms, and fashions like the everyday people you meet on the streets. This is Yahoo! Q & A, a public site for anyone to express their personal feelings, whether it's good, bad, off the wall, or somewhat indifferent. The good thing about it, we don't have to encounter these folks face to face. Thank God! They receive a few points which don't add up to anything worthwhile.

We have mostly partisan bickering because most people would nor rather do the work of...thinking for themselves.

It's much less effort to glam onto some mantra or other and support your spoon-fed ignorance of the facts.

Thinking! It's so difficult, so time consuming. How do you think we got ourselves into a situation where the Republican Party of God ended up running the country into the ground making the USA close to a third world country?

All praise the Party Mantra.

Now, lets us join hands and...PREY !

Sadly that's the way it is on these types of boards. The anonymity afforded in being able to assume a name and a face which may be very different from your own, and not having to disclose any real information about yourself to the public affords the ability to be a real jerk and probably receive no comeuppance for it. Even if they get termed they can just make another account and come right back on, There are a ton of trolls on here who actually feel they have the right to be trolls.

its easier to blame everything on a boogey-man than it is to find real reasons and answers. This is also why our government truly sucks at solutions to problems.

They placate to this 'boogey-man' ideology and it keeps most of the sheeple focused on the partisan mess instead of reality. "it wasn't the legislation or the bribes or the unethical conduct or etc. It was the GOP/Democrats fault. They wouldn't ______."

In a word, yes we are that uncivilized. But its by comfort and willfull ignorance.

Just read your post and I have to say that you are very misguided. The people that ask the type of question you asked and the manner in which you asked it are always more interested in applying blame than in fixing any problems.

By the way your agenda is obvious to anyone that reads your posts with an open mind.

I think it is because of personal differences.

For instance, most of us Republicans consider ourselves the producers and defenders of the Republic. We view Democrats as the parasites ie... welfare recipients, and the thieves ie ... union workers who extort from their companies and so pass the cost to we the consumer thus raising prices and taxes artificially.
It is that disparity of circumstance at the personal level that drives the vicious partisanship. Can you dig it?

Hey, I answered your question. I'm sorry if you don't agree. If you look underneath all the bs, it truly is all about the vote.

You really DO live up to your avatar name, don't you? : )
