I want to become a doctor when I am older, what kinds of books should I read now?
I am in the 11 grade and I do fairly well in school, (hardest classes and 3.6 GPA, activley involved in school and out of school activities, yet to take SAT or ACT though.) I like to read but do not consider myself an avid reader yet. Which books would help me to develop my vocabulary as well as increase my intelligence for when I enter into medical school and the medical profession itself.

Also, do you think that I stand a good chance of getting into Emory, Case or Vanderbilt?

I am aware that my high school perfomance only influences my undergrad career. What should you then suggest to help me in the very competitve area of medical school accpetance?

There is more than one question being asked here.
1. Read fiction and non-fiction - be sure to read ALL the classics
2. Do research on the entrance requirements for Emory, Case and VanderBilt and decide if you would be accepted. You will not know for sure unless you apply.
3. Apply first at Medical Schools that do not require the MCAT; then to the other schools of your choice. At the end ot the day, a Medical degree is a Medical degree. I have NEVER seen a diploma show where an MD placed in his/her class.
I wish you well. Our son graduated with an Honours Biochemistry degree last year and was accepted into Medical school without the MCAT this year. He is one happy camper!!

You should apply to Emory, Vandy, and Duke

I think you have a shot at Vandy, which is a great schoo. try to break 2000 on the SAT and you'll probably get into Vandy.

For emory and duke 2100
