What is with people always picking fights about whose team has the "classier" fans? Last time I checked, watching the NFL wasn't the same thing as attending a tea party with your grandmother. I didn't think having class was an issue when it came to being a sports fan. Every team has good fans and bad fans. A few bad fans shouldn't soil the name of the rest. Let's spend our time talking about the teams, not each other.
Can the class arguments stop? Your toughts?

I agree with you , classy fan is an oxymoron, like jumbo shrimp, pretty ugly, plastic glass, virtual reality this list goes on and on.

They want to talk about classy fans, go to Wimbleton or the Opera

Obviously thiis question is about Charger fans... ...stay classy san diego

I personaly think class has a time and a place. Football sunday ain't it. What exactly would make me a classy fan, not tuanting the other team. Not trash talking with the other teams fans. Too bad, I think those are my jobs as a fan and I expect the same of the other teams fans.

Listen every team that has a fan base will have it's classless followers and i mean everything from Little League to the pros. But it's how you act that matters. I am not a trash talker unless someone starts talking trash to me 1st. I am equally as good a winner as a loser. I have played sports all my life and when we beat a team I would not rub it in their face just like if we lost I would not make excuses and I would tell the other team great game. As I said the only person you have to worry about it yourself! If you are with a bunch of people who are fans of the team you like and they are acting like ****** it doesn't mean you have to join in. But here is one of my favorite sayings "Don't dish it out if you can't take it!"

these boards tend to attract idiots and people who will write things that they would never say and do; so don't use Y!A or other blogs as a barometer of whether fans are classy or not.

I hear tons of arrogance from all fan bases here, including the Patriots (though there are far more haters than Pats' fans here). I have been to a few NE games (I'm a Giant fan who lives near Foxboro, my friends have season tix, so I usually go to a game or 2 each year).

And though they may get drunk and loud, they are always respectful of other teams' fans (they'll give 'em crap, but it's good natured) - they don't throw stuff on the field - even with all the snow games, they're known for throwing snow in the air like fireworks - straight up- than at the field or players.

So because a few 16 year old and no-life 20-60 somethings run their mouths off anonymously does not mean an entire fan base is without class.

Your right Ashley but I don't see an end to it it is all part of rivalries and as long as there are rival fans and wannabe fans and bandwagoneers and just plain old irrational people their is always going to be that fly in the ointment sort of speak.

I think sportsfans and writers have largely killed the term class. It used to be my favorite way to praise a good guy or group of guys, but now there's always endless debate about the "Classiness" of everything. I completely agree that the discussion of "class" has been ruined.

It is worth pointing out though, that some fan bases have more than their fair share of crazies. Take the Raiders for example, their fans are more psycho than normal.

Personally, I think using "classy fans" and "NFL" in the same sentence is an oxymoron. The sport doesn't intend itself to be the epitome of high class, and I'm not sure why anyone even bothers making the argument.

You're right, there are good and bad fans for every team.

Hi Ashley, I do agree with most of your points. However, have you ever been to the Black Hole. As a Charger fan I was scared for my life, in a sea of black wearing powder blue. After we beat the Raiders, I remember putting a jacket on because some ex convict said he wanted to kick the **** out of some Chargers fans. You're a Steelers fan, I respect them because it isn't about looking like a gangster or Star Wars figure. Raiders fans are all about that gangster persona, and their team stinks.

Not much class in sports these days.

Still I love football and the primal battle that ensues in the trenches every Sunday is a nice escape from the daily grind. My only complaint is when spectators (i.e. Raiders fans on weekend passes) forget that they are not on the team and stab or beat opposing fans during games.

People get offended way too easily. Especially when they are beat by the better team. Most of the time what people usually complain about other fans doing, they will do themselves at some point.
