I'm anticipating Judas Priest's new album. It's going to be their first concept album so I think it'll be quite interesting.

I hope that the Sisters of Mercy will finally release a new album next year.

I know what I'm hoping will disappear, but if I mention that band again, I'll probably rip my hair out.

You?

Steven25; 'tis creeping up to night time here in lovely England =]

Sookie; Haha, I think we're on that same page. Next year would be /paradise/ without "They-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named"

Jake; I agree. More music less posing.

Mike; Hair metal will take over the world at this rate... -gasps-. & I hope Axl releases CD just so everyone can get it out of their systems.

Rckets; There /can/ be miracles if you believe! haha. If we pray to the god of goth perhaps we'll finally get the album.
Yep, I heard about what Eldritch said, and it pains me to make this comparison, but it reminds me of Gerard Way claiming that he's not emo when he so obviously is. Deny It all you want Andy, it doesn't make you any less goth!

Van Halen doing an album with David Lee Roth would be really something.

Rage Against The Machine should have an album out soon.

I wonder if Genesis will ever make another album.

Only ten more years until Guns 'N' Roses - Chinese Democracy comes out. Yippeeee! (Not.)

You know what? Michael Jackson is a damn freak, but the only way he's ever been able to justify his worth to society is through his music and performances - and his new album is due in February. From where I stand, he's gonna need one heckuva blockbuster to get things going right again. If he's got the guts to put another disc out after all his trouble, I'll bet he's got something worthwhile. I'm not going to run out and buy it on spec, but I'm awfully curious as to what he would say on an album at this point.

One of the greatest long running jokes of the R&P is regarding the release of Chinese Democracy. However, there are three bands that fly further under the radar that are even more of a joke in terms of lack of productivity. If any of the following bands puts out a proper album (not a compilation) it will be a miracle.

Sisters of Mercy – I’ve been a huge fan of this Goth band for almost twenty years. I was fortunate to have seen them during their last appearance in my hometown. However, I’ve been hearing talk about a new album for almost fifteen years. It’s no longer a realistic hope for 2008. I’ll believe it when I see it. Oh yeah, Andrew Eldritch himself claims to hate Goth music, whatever that means. Talk about a self-loathing Goth!

My Bloody Valentine – Pretty much the same story as GnR & SoM. This joke has been running in alternative circles for seventeen years, being that MBV has a new album coming out “next year.” I realize that their music was so far ahead of its time that they caused their label to go bankrupt, but c’mon! They’ve had enough time to recover.

Portishead – Too busy getting stoned for the last decade and then have the audacity to complain how hard it is to come out with an album. Too funny.

Muse are supposedly working on a new album, so I'm really looking forward to that. None of their albums have been less than outstanding in my view, so a new release from them would be great.

I'd also really like to see Sufjan Stevens bring out something new. He set himself the task of making an album for each of the fifty states in the US, and so far he's only covered Michigan and Illinois. Clearly he's never going to get around to all of them, but I'm guessing he'll at least make a few more records.

Aside from that, I just hope that 2008 will be as good for music as 2007 has been.

I am also anticipating Judas Priest's new album, and am psyched about the new Kiss Tour!! :) Yaaaaay! I can't wait :D

As for my hopes... this is probably way too far fetched to ever come true, but it would be great if true ROCK N' Roll could some how take back over the music world so we could get away from the new crap that's being over played.
A world without the word "emo" ever being used again... wow, now I know I'm dreaming LOL.

People are naive to think that after the 90's (or 80's, or 70's or 60's), good musicians suddenly became non existent. True, a vast majority of popular rock music isn't all that great, it's boring, unoriginal and annoying, if you look around a bit and don't rely on MTV to tell you what to listen to, you will discover some amazing talent.

I know it's just wishful thinking, but I really hope Led Zeppelin decide to make a world tour, since their reunion was such a success..

Also, I'd like to see the Emo fad disappear (My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, P!ATD, ...).. It's just really gotten old, the music is just too whiny and pathetic, the artists are all the same..

I'm anticipating the release of Coldplay's new album, which is due at the beginning of the year.. They say it'll be called Propspekt or something of the sort..

Also, I'm anxious to see what new styles of music will become popular in 2008. Hopefully music wil be better than 2007.

I think it's going to be a big year for Punk, mainly. Rancid is coming out with their first record since 2003, and Social Distortion is following up their 2004 effort. So is Green Day (if they can be considered "Punk") . Rise Against and NoFX are following up their 2006 records. and Last Of the Believers will be dropping their first full-length record.

In Metal, Killswitch Engage is going to release a new album, to follow up "As Daylight Dies" and It's going to be good. They aren't really trendy, so probably more of the same. However, the Metalcore scene as a whole will probably split, with poppy bands like Atreyu and As I Lay Dying turning into Pop Metal, and Harder-edged bands going back to the scene's roots in Thrash.

In terms of mainstream music, with the advent of crap like "Guitar Hero", I think "Emo" is gonna break, and some form of Hair Metal or (god forbid!) Rap Metal will come back. The aformentioned (bad Metalcore) bands will probably have something to do with this. And your boys Judas Priest will probably get some spotlight. I dunno how Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance will cope.

All in All, I'm pretty excited. Most of my friends will latch on to the Hair Metal junk, and I'll still be listening to punk rock. But It'll be pretty cool. Foo Fighters are going to tour on their new record, so that's gonna be neat. Peace!

I hope that Chinese Democracy continues to remain unreleased. The ridicule that Axl receives for these delays is just too much fun. Then again, the ridicule that would surely be at his expense when the album fails miserably could be even more fun.

planned 2008 releases that have potential:
Leverage - Blind Fire
Dokken - Lightning Strikes Again
Brother Firetribe - Heart Full of Fire
Whitesnake - Good to be Bad
Def Leppard - Songs from the Sparkle Lounge
along with releases from:
Aerosmith
Glenn Hughes
Danny Vaughn
Judas Priest
Journey
Wig Wam

Of course, the most exciting thing that is scheduled to take place in 2008....

Hold your breath...

I didn't even know Judas Priest was coming out with a new album. I'm anticipating that now. I'd like to hear more underrated bands on the radio. But has there ever been a year that that happened?

Yes, that My Bloody Valentine album mentioned above would be nice, as well as the possible Jesus and Mary Chain album rumored to be in the works... hopefully these two bands follow through with this.
I'm also looking forward to Trent releasing something... and it'd be an added bonus if whatever he releases is better than Year Zero.
