Hi, just about the worst thing that could have happened, has happend. My partner and I went away for Christmas and he had left locked the cat flap by accident, and the cat was trapped in the utility room for three nights.... She had pooped and obviously you can imagine the room was a mess. I didn't clear it up myself, my partner wore gloves and disposed of the mess and then cleaned the floor with antibac floor cleaner and with Bleach.
I'm still worried about it. Could I have caught toxoplasmosis from this? I didn't go in the room myself, but I am still freaking out like mad about this. What are your views? The cat has now gone to be looked after by my mums as I was so worried about it all.

hello, I've already had a test and I know I haven't already had it. I have grown up with Cats all my life so I was surprised I hadn't had a previous infection

As long as you didn't touch it, you should be fine! I have been discussing this over and over with my doctor because I have ferrets, but they just keep saying, just don't touch it and you'll be okay.
If you still feel unsure, ask your doctor to do a toxoplasmosis blood test on you and that will tell you for sure and help you if you do have it.
Good luck!

You should be fine. Is your cat an outdoor cat at all? Usually, if your cat is strictly indoors, and you had the cat for some time before you became pregnant, you are most likely immune to toxoplasmosis.

I don't think it was the worst thing that could have happened, unless you're looking at it from the cat's point of view. Poor thing was trapped for 3 days, and now he's been sent away!

Honestly, I think you are overreacting just a bit. You are fine. But call your doctor if you continue to be very concerned.

I would think you are probably fine, but there is a simple blood test for toxoplasmosis. It is done routinely where I live (UK) as I was discovered to have contracted this infection when I was pregnant with my youngest child. Fortunately for us both, the test also indicated that it was an old infection, which meant I was probably infected long before I was pregnant. I have several children and always kept cats & dogs with absolutely no problems, so please don't worry too much, but do request the test to put your mind at ease.

first off it has nothing to do with if you touch the cat litter or feces. it doesnt get absorbed through your skin. the litter has nothing to do with it at all to be honest. you get toxo by ingesting cat feces. like if you eat some cat poop. yeah. like change the litter box and dont go wash your hand then eat something. but who dosent wash their hands after changing the litter box? thats why you shouldnt garden either. a local stray cat could have used your flower bed as their litter box. and digging around in the bed could make you come incontact with it. i think kicking your poor cat out was a bit harsh. its not like he could help himself. as long as you got all the feces up and bleached the room your alright. not a thing to worry about. best of luck and congrats

You should be fine - the spores have to mature in a moist environment for several days before they're infectious. Even after that, a thorough cleaning should be sufficient; unless you got visible quantities of poop on you and then stuck your hand in your mouth without washing, there's effectively *ZERO* chance of picking up Toxo. Most people get Toxoplasma from undercooked meat or dirty vegetables, *NOT* from the cat.

Please, stop freaking out - it's going to make your cat neurotic. Bring kitty home, she misses you. :(

Have you been tested for Toxoplasmosis? You should have been at the start of your pregnancy.

If it was negative the first time, go get checked again.

If you have had a cat for a long time, the chances are you have it anyway. Not a problem if you had it before you conceived.

Not sure how long you've had your cat, but from what I understand, you will have probably already have been exposed to this and should have developed immunity...nothing to worry about. Better safe than sorry - you can take your cat to nearest animal clinic and have her tested, as well as mention it to your doctor to see what he/she thinks.

Shouldn't be a problem. It's not anything that is airborne. You have to come in direct contact with the feces. If your partner cleaned it all up thoroughly you'll be fine. Relax and enjoy your kitty!

You only need to worrry if your breathing in the fumes and/or dust from the feces and cat litter. Thats why they say dont change a litter box....im sure your fine, just mention it at your next doctors appt. If your doctor feels it necessary to treat you or test you for it, then they will. Until then dont worry, and just relax and bring the cat back!

You can have a blood test from your doctor ,probably best to, to stop your worry, from what you say, about not having handled or had direct contact with the poop,it may be unlikely, but can be verified by a blood test, available from your doctor.
