Hey Harly riders!!!

Any idea where I find out what percent of a Harly is still made in the USA? What was the last year/model Harly was made entirely in the USA? Why is this information so hard to find out? I don't want to buy a bike that is made out of chinese junk parts!

Harleys suck they are they are traders to there own country when they sold out to japan and more recent have allowed harleys to me made in Brazil and India. so they cant keep a american made motorcycle made in America ok yes they make them here also but why do they have to make them and sell them in other countrys also with all them sales why has the price not come down i can by a honda shadow for under $10.000 and it will be more comfortable faster better mpg and will be more dependable i would never buy a harley unless it was old before the company became idiots and ****** every thing up and just think there are dozens of American motorcycles made before ww2 so many cutting edge for there day why dont some investors get together and remake the Henderson!! Harleys Suck and if you think thats all there is then you are a narrow minded idiot and are coping a bunch of people who are wrong

I have been a General Manager of three Harley dealerships, Harley is 65% American made, that is from Harley !!!! I have owned 34 Harley's but my last two bikes bought in 2012 and 2013 have been victory cross country's , victory and Indian are both 100% American made in spirit lake Iowa..... I heard an executive for Harley make a comment at the 2012 winter show that Harley could smear **** on a Harley and all the dumb yuppies would still buy it, if victory is no good ask sonny barter a personal friend of mine why he rides a victory or go to you tube and look at Harley vs victory.... I was in a MC for 10 years and I will continue to ride a 100% US made **** HARLEY!!!!!!!

1973 was the last year that harly was fully built in the usa. It was a right shift and in the middle 70's amf took it over and it became a left shift. I have the early model with the right shift. Since then ti has parts from around the world. but it is still assem. here in the good old usa

All new motor vehicles sold in the USA must display a sticker or placard that details the country of origin of components used in building the vehicle. This is not an itemized list, but usually expressed as a percentage of the total vehicle. Your average new Chevrolet would say 25% Canadian, 25% Mexican, 50% USA or something similar.

I believe the average new Harley-Davidson motorcycles are about 80% American made parts.

About 30 percent of your newer Harley parts are made with pride by sloppy Union labor here in the good old USA. The rest is farmed out to Japan and Germany.

I believe that BMW is making the pistons these days, but your electronics are Nippondenso and the steel in the frame is from Japan as well as a lot of the other parts. If you are getting Bridgestone tires, then they are from the UK, Michelin are from France and Cheng Shin are from Korea, I think.

Harleys aren't made in Japan! For years the carbs have been Mikunis and the forks and shocks Showa. The Evolution engines have Jahn (Germany) pistons, but otherwise, they're still mainly American sourced. I agree with Jet Doc, I was also going to guess 80%. Oh, Gold Wings are made in USA, Marysville, Ohio and are probably as much American as Harleys. Don't forget Kawasaki, the first Jap outfit to assemble bikes in the US (Lincoln, Nebraska).

I would say, pre 70s as a guess. But now these days, Chevy builds cars with parts from around the world and Toyota builds cars in the USA... go figure that one.

Perhaps the new HDs have cables made in Mexico, Bulbs made in Japan, Tires from France, Engine from USA... like any other and every thing build now these days :-)

Most of the parts are from other countries but not all. You might want to try calling 414-343-4056 which is Harely customer service and see if they might be able to answer this question for you. I have to agree i think the pre AMF time is when they were all ours. The reason the answer is hard to find because it is like how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie roll pop.

There isn't much that is just American made. There are a lot of other American motorcycles now. Indian is now in production again, Victory motorcycles, Vento motorcycles, and endless customs.

The HD engine block and major engine components are made in the U.S.
BUT: many hardware parts of the engines such as clutch springs, bearings, bolts, nuts, seals and some powered metal transmission gears are made in Taiwan and China.
The Honda Gold Wing, VTX and ST are made in Middlesburg Ohio and "ALL" parts and "ALL" parts of their engines are made in the U.S.
The Honda Bikes are more American Made than HD
