A specialty show is one that is for just a certain breed or certain collection of breeds. It is often put on or sanctioned by the breed clubs- and the pamphlets you get for registering will usually tell you who sanctions it. Of course, for any winnings to actually "count" they ALWAYS have to be sanctioned by ARBA (American Rabbit Breeders Association). Specialty shows is like a regular show in that they look at body conformation, fur quality, color, etc. Same standards you have been showing under already.

Fur show is different- it can include multiple breeds and it judges the animals coat on it's fur "worthiness". Basically- they look at the animal in the light of how desirable would that pelt be at that given time.

They look at fur density, texture, and finish of the coat. Finish is how complete the coat is in terms of molting- blow into a coat to see "finish". If you see skin that's good- if you see a second layer of fur it's very unfinished. Also, a coat that's flying away is unfinished.

Unless things have changed- winnings in a fur class do not count for "legs" or steps towards a grand champion- they count for notoriety or bragging rights.

If you want to enter into the Mini Rex convention- enter into the specialty show. This is where your winnings will "count" towards grand championship. If you have some awesome fur coats that you expect will be in good finish at the time then go ahead and enter one or two into the fur class for experience.

Conventions bring some heavy hitters- so since I take it this is your first I would enter just a few. It's expensive and stressful and even if you've shown well locally- competing alongside the national "greats" may be an eye-opening experience. Or, you may have some killer stuff and earn yourself quite a name! If you're 18 or under you should have a youth show to enter into, but if your over then you have to enter open. (You can enter open as a youth if you like). It gets tougher in open, but the potential for learning is much greater, too. Both are good experiences and should prove to be interesting, enlightening, and maybe (hopefully) even fun!

Good luck!
