FYI for people, not everyone can get insurance through their work. A lot of jobs don't provide that option. I work full time at my job and have been here for 2 years and they will never give me benefits. The company just can't afford it. You may not be able to get Medicaid but ask if there are any other programs that can help you out. They also have what i think is called Medicaid spenddown where you only pay a little because you make just a little too much, and I think you just pay what amount you make over the limit which for you would be like $25 a month.(i think that's how it goes) Look into that. We have one in Indiana called Hoosier Healthwise. It helps pregnant women that make too much or have too much in assets to qualify for Medicaid, but there is still a limit on how much you can make. You may have something similar to that in your area. And remember, your unborn baby counts as another person in your family, so you are at 4. If you can not find anything like that, consider finding a part time job or a work at home job to cover expenses. Also, make sure you get on a payment plan with your doctor and the hospital. That way you don't have to make those huge payments all at once. Good Luck!

I know in IL you can apply for medicaid that you pay for. My daughter and I are on it because my husbands insurance was too much money. We pay only 40 a month, ( it is a sliding scale based on income) We were denied for Free medicaid the first time we applied and they didnt even mention the fact that they had a sliding scale until I asked about it. Try calling your local human service dept or where ever you applied and see if they had something simular.
If you want to know more information on what I am talking about so you can ask more informed questions you can see the insurance stuff for IL at www.allkidscovered.com
Good Luck!
If your state doesnt do something like this go to the county Health department. They may be able to help you find a sliding scale doctor or give you some great advice on what to do.

Hospitals have what is called a charity care plan. I just signed up for it after having my second child 4 months ago. I would look into that for the hospital. And as far as doctors...I would find a clinic to go to. Maybe go to the hospital and see if they can give you a write up of clinics for those w/o health insurance. Currently I am waiting on the state to get back to me on my health insurance *i still have none*. But I live in NJ and they have what is called New Jersey Family Care..not medicaid. So...good luck.

Each State runs their Medicaid program a little differently. In my State it is called Medi-Cal. Your local Hospital should be able to help you with some resource guidance. Also, search your State's website and search Federal Title XXI State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). If you live in California look into Healthy Families as well.

that happen to me and now i have been approved, when applying put down yourself and your first child only. You should qualify for PCAP. Medicaid gives that to pregnant woman, give the info on your husband. Is there a medicaid office in your hospital, if so, go and find out info on PCAP, its prenatal care assistance program and may only be eligible until after the baby is born. I dont know what state you live in, but im going to give you a link and hopefully you can find info in your state.

Check with the governor's office to see if you qualify for any other form of state health insurance. I think it might be called the Childrens Health Insurance Program in some states.
Hindsight is 20/20, but you should have had health insurance before you got pregnant.
You may end up having to settle with the doctors and hospital after it's all over, unfortunately. That or go bankrupt.

If you speak with the biling departments of both the clinic and the hospital, they will almost always work out payment arrangements that would not require large lump sums as you're describing.
And for the insensitive people out there who say she cannot afford a baby just because she doesn't have thousands of dollars on hand to pay for her medical - you're ridiculous. The vast majority of the US population lives 2 paychecks away from poverty. Babies themselves are not all that expensive if you aren't one of those materialistic people who needs designer crib sheets and the entire line of Baby Einstein videos. Many people cannot afford health care because it's outrageously expensive, not because they are irresponsible and broke.

Nows not the time to be planing! But since its done, go see your local welfare & charge the bill to me, just like all the others that dont plan ahead! Sorry but I dont feel sorry for you! Not one bit! Your part of a problem no one seems to know how to fix! Little wonder health insurance has skyrocketed! Those than can pay, do pay, & those that cant pay, force the ones that can pay to pay more! Thanx!

Look in your area for a local midwife that does babies at home. Its a LOT cheaper and most of the time the midwife will come to your home for visits.

Aat 25$/hr your husband can afford it. Do you have cell phones, Internet, cable TV; these things add up and it is a choice. You like choices don't you? Medicate should not pay for your choise.
