Serbia is between Macedonia and Hungary in central Europe. Serbia merged with Montenegro in, what is now, the old Yugoslavia. The capital of Belgrade is in Serbia. Serbia gained independence from Montenegro last year. The former Yugoslavia is a case study in regards to nation-states.
Several ethnic groups have fought over the land for a thousand years.
Here's a couple of maps and information about Serbia.
