Hello all, I am almost 21 weeks preg. I had a cold that lasted 4 or 5 days. Sore throat, coughing, stuffy nose etc. For the last 2 days my ears have felt plugged kind of. They dont hurt but feel like they need to pop, my hearing is reduced because they feel like they need to pop. Is this something i should wait out a few more days. Anyone else who is preg experience this?

Congestion in pregnancy is always much more fun because you're naturally congested anyway- due to higher fluid volume and engorged capillary beds. Fun, ain't it?

If it gets uncomfortable ask the pharmacist what you can take. I don't remember what they allowed me to have but with my first one I had a very painful sinus infection and it was a horrid experience. I couldn't take much of anything until I saw the doc and BEGGED for something to help with the pain. I think they gave me vicodin and antibiotics. Woohoo.

Hopefully you won't need anything like that. I know some of the remedies they suggested to help relieve congestion were steam therapy (hot soup, hot tea, hot shower, or just steam in the face), hot compresses, rest, and I believe you can have decongestants (ask!). Since nose and sinuses are closely related to the ears- not a surprise those are plugged up right now.

You might have fluid in your middle ear which is the reason for pressure or it might be that your sore throat has swollen up and closed off the eustacian tubes not allowing for them to equalize pressure. Either one can get pretty uncomfortable and if it gets much worse- seeing the doc couldn't hurt. I just suggest you go in before it gets really painful- it may clear up on its own or it may not, but why wait until you're in a lot of pain?

Again, a trip to Walgreens and a visit to the pharmacist can help determine what you should and shouldn't have while pregnant if you need to wait until Monday to call the doc. They may suggest some decongestants. If your throat is still red and inflamed- maybe even an anti-inflammatory drug (not Advil!). These can help keep you comfortable until you can see the doc and get the infection treated.

Good luck, feel better, and Happy New Year!

Sounds like you just have/had a bad cold. I had one too not too long ago and my doctor's office said I could take Sudafed or Benadryl. Just call your doctor and see if you can take anything to help it along. Congrats and good luck!
