He only took a urine sample? He didn't do an ultrasound?
That's a big difference, especially if you're counting from your last period.
I didn't think they could tell how far along you were from a urine sample, only from measuring the baby in the ultrasound.

No, they can't tell how far along you are from a urine sample. Who ever told you that doesn't know a thing about pregnancy, so if it was your doctor, get another one.
The only way they might determine how far along you are is by calculating when your last period was. If you told him when that was, then he can get an idea of how far along you are. Otherwise the only other two ways to know for sure how far along you are is by getting a blood test done or an ultra sound done. Those are the only sure ways to know.

Actually they can guess the approximate weeks. They do a count - I forget the name of it but it is 3 letters - ask your dr. they will explain. I think it starts with an H but cannot remember
When I was preg. with twins it confused them and I was sent to get an emergancy unltra sound because they thought I was further along but could not hear a heart beat - becuase of course there were two which gave the higher count( did not know that at the time of the visit )
So if you are only having one child - they can guess by the count approx. how far along you are. They cannot give you an exact -

it ought to be regarding a nutrition which you have eaten (as an occasion: asparagus could make some human beings's urine stink! or of you're taking new supplements...). it ought to be that your urine is amazingly centred using fact of dehydration, or...it ought to be an infection. Do you have the different indications that pass alongside with it (fever, lower back discomfort, burning at the same time as you urinate)? commence by skill of ingesting a lot of water and notice if that enables. in case you have the different indications that accompany the scent then see a doctor. you have a urinary tract an infection, that could get nasty.

they can't tell through a urine sample how far along you are. you'd need a blood test or ultrasound for that. when was the first day of your last period? that is the date you go by. if you were counting from the day you think you got pregnant that could account for the two weeks you are missing.

no they cant, if he did an internal he can tell from the size of your uterus at about 7 weeks it is the size of a grapefruit...and took the first day of your last period, remember if you thougth you were 5-7 and he says 8-10 remember that you were counted preggo from the first day of your last period and you should add two weeks to the conception date.

No he is more likely guessing on your last period date, the sample only shows how much hormone you have in your urine to give a positive.

He's doing a best guess using the levels of HCG in your urine sample...here's a general guide that he's probably going by:
Guideline to hCG levels during pregnancy:
hCG levels in weeks from LMP (gestational age)* :
3 weeks LMP: 5 - 50 mIU/ml
4 weeks LMP: 5 - 426 mIU/ml
5 weeks LMP: 18 - 7,340 mIU/ml
6 weeks LMP: 1,080 - 56,500 mIU/ml
7 - 8 weeks LMP: 7, 650 - 229,000 mIU/ml
9 - 12 weeks LMP: 25,700 - 288,000 mIU/ml
13 - 16 weeks LMP: 13,300 - 254,000 mIU/ml
17 - 24 weeks LMP: 4,060 - 165,400 mIU/ml

your urine contains a hormone present only during pregnancy.the level of this hormone increases throughout the pregnancy.(example:during 5wks the level should be between a range)so yes they can determine this but how accurate this method is ....?.....I would wait for an ultrasound.
