Why do bad things happen to good people?

My theory is that good people give out good karma so the natural order is to balance it out by giving that person bad Karma?

Not quite, but atleast your wise/mature enough to see karma. But understand that once you start seeing the world that way you most rid yourself of good and bad. Those are opinions. You most see the world as destruction, and creation. A much different way to view things. BUt what this does, is take away the whole idea of whats fair for good people and whats fair for bad people. Instead it pretty much detacts that you well gain from what you create. Along with what you destroy. It divides us away from being "good" people and "bad" people. And instead you most see that all people create, they just don't all create things that are equally strong. Like the jerk getting the cute naive girl. He can have her, so what if she's cute naive and in need of direction, she'll hopfully find eventually by the distrustion of that relatioship how to create a better relationship with herself. Same for if you create anything. It just comes down to that. Well balanced with the fact that this world is bigger then you and me, its in a constant state of destruction and creation, its easy to get caught in the whirl-wind. But typically, even nature has a "bad" time destroy that, that man has created, of course, you'd have to look at human history as a whole to see that picture. But please, your doing great, just earse that old-fashian good and evil crap, and realize we create and we destroy, and we reap the benefit of those actions.... not always what we hope ether. But lets say you gave some poor guy 50 bucks (good right) but he turns around uses it for a gun and blows his brains out, right at your front door. (bad right) how do we make sense out of this? Easy in the creation, destruction perception. You thought that you could create a strong need to do good in him because you thought that was what he lacked, instead what he lacked was the need to create anymore. So your good intentions paved his road to hell. So with this new way of thinking we most become wiser, the world has became a greyer place..... and you better bet it takes the balance between the heart and the mind to accomplish this, its why homework is so important ;-)

what is "good" and what is "bad"?

good and bad is all about perception and the value one holds. what you consider good might be considered bad to someone who has different values and perception than yourself.

as for kama thats a whole another story.
