I was just wondering if someone from HR or Personnel could help me out. I went to an interview with a staffing agency and they said they were going to submit my application to see if there would be a potential interview. They advised me that they would call me either way, it's been a couple days and no call yet. I was wondering could it be the company that is taking so long to respond? I also sent out a few resumes before Christmas and was told before that the best hiring times for companies is usually in January, is that true?

It depends on what you are applying for. Yes, numerous businesses hire seasonly or due to business cycles. Take this advice, don't quit applying to jons until you've landed one. You are simply a number, act like it. My advice is this, for every 100 jobs you apply for - you'll get about 3 interviews, 1 offer. Surely you shouldn't wait for a recruiter to call back, get numerous recruiters/staffing agencies working for you at the same time. Be sure to tell them not to submit your resume without your knowledge or agreement. Most jobs recruiters/staffing agencies send out for are public knolwedge.. so all you are doing by working with them is lowering what money you would get from an employer because they have to pay them fees. Good luck.

Between Christmas and New Years is generally slow for hiring. Some companies are seasonal or cyclical, where they may hire a bunch of people in certain months, but most companies are not. Be sure to followup with a phone call and/or letter if you are not hearing back from the companies.

Pre-holiday is slow since those planning to change jobs usually wait till after Christmas and New Years to do so. Under current economic conditions I do not expect a huge opening of jobs even after the holidays. Be patient and keep at it.

During the time that I have been in the workforce, I always found January to be slow. March and April are better months. You should still apply and not give up. Openings come up when one least expects it.
