It is showing that technology has made surviving war injuries more common. It is also showing we are doing a fine job in Iraq.

It indicates a typing issue for you.

Vietnam was 58,000+

Other than that, it shows that there are more people murdered in America over that time than troops. Actually if you figure in the number of deaths that occur in the military during peacetime (motorcycle accidents, etc) it speaks volumes.

Iraq is a campaign in a larger war, this war is still going on and several more lives will be lost before its over.Afghanistan will surely rack up several lives in its struggle till its over as well.We lose more lives in a single day of battle taking some of the islands back from the Japanise during WW2 than in the years in Iraq.

Those numbers alone say nothing at all.

What this false comparison lacks is the size of the army that the enemy had during each conflict.

WWII - 416,800 US troops killed fighting 1 million
Vietnam - 58,000 US troops killed fighting 400,000
Iraq - 3,000 - 4,000 US troops killed fighting 20,000

edit: Check your Vietnam number again (5,800) sounds low.

Almost as many people died on 9/!! as have died in Iraq and if you included those whose health problems will mean they meet with an early death, probably more died as a result of 9/!!.

Overall, these numbers tell me that the majority can neither read numbers or, interpret them critically when they do.

That 58,000 american lives were wasted in Vietnam, that 3,000 to 4,000 lives were wasted in Iraq, not to mention the untold number of civilian deaths experienced in both conflicts.

It says that technology has increased exponentially since WWII, and that we no longer have to storm beaches, and fight a war of attrition. It also says that the country's youngest, best and brightest are all too often being wasted.
