I have my laptop connected to my TV through an S-Video cable and I can see the picture, but the audio is still playing on my laptop speakers and not my TV. I thought this cable was capable of transmitting video as well as audio through one cable? If this is true can someone help me configure my Dell Inspiron 1420 to output audio/video?

You cannot get sound through an S-Video cable. Certain video cameras come with a headphone to RCA cable. You can buy one of those cables, plug one end into your headphone jack in your Dell computer, and the Red and White RCA should be connected to your TV's input.

S-video is just video. You need to hook up the external speaker jack of your laptop to the audio input on your TV or stereo.
