It was originally reported that she got shot in the neck and throat, but now the Pakistani government says she killed herself by hitting her head on the sunroof.

Any ideas?

Here are some ideas to add to the mix...
1. An attempt to quell rioting... Last night, there were riots in Pakistan and the military issued orders to shoot protesters.

2. If the circumstances can be changed from 'assassination' to 'accident', perhaps it would diminish her status as a martyr for the people

3. If the people don't buy the sunroof story, then reinstatement of martial law and suspension of elections would be 'justified' (a de-facto win for the Musharraf regime).

4. Divert attention from an all-party conference being held to decide if the Jan. 8 elections will be held or not. Of the main parties... Bhutto is dead and her PPP has called for a forty-day mourning period, Nawaz Sharif says his party will boycott the election, the Islamist parties, Jamaat-e-Islami and MQM are undecided. That leaves the PLM-Q (pro-Musharraf party) essentially talking out of both sides of their mouth saying that the elections will proceed but that they will respect the decision of the all-party conference. Hmmm.

5. Divert attention from a possible connection between Bhutto's death and an incident three hours earlier when four supporters of Nawaz Sharif were killed by gunfire in a rally outside Islamabad.

6. IF Bhutto died because she was a klutz and IF there was no gunfire, but instead a car backfired and IF there was no bomber but 20+ people spontaneously combusted... then maybe there would be no reason to question how Bhutto could be assassinated within a few blocks of the military headquarters... after the military had been bragging about the security precautions taken to protect Bhutto. OK, as a theory it's out there... but still seems fair to question the security measures.

You don't really believe what you see on TV dramas, do you? That everything can be solved in a few minutes?

Even on TV it takes days or weeks, and even then they find out they misunderstood the evidence.

Investigating Crime Scenes is very complicated work.

You also need to realize that some remains that they're dealing with are smaller than potato chips, I'm sure, if a bomb was involved. Not pretty, and not easy to figure out what happened.

Mez...you make a very good point--the race to be first means sometimes the facts get lost in the confusion. This coming from a member of small town media.

Phil--I think you hit the nail on the head.

Everybody is saying she died from "a bump on the head." Come on, people, it was more than that. I was under the impression that the bomb was on her car or under her car, but it was not. But, apparently, it was near her, near enough that the force of the blast threw her against the top of her car.

Again, the story is still being put together. Let's wait to draw conclusions.

This is just a supposition for the actual cause of her death.....actualy the peneterating wound on her ear was the main cause of death , previoucly it is said that it was gun shot wound...as the firing was heard before the blast and also a man is noticed firing at her..then they noticed the sunroof blood stains and thought to be becuase of her head struck with it resulted in death..but it was a homicidal attack on her and those morons have gotton what they wanted whether it was becuase of the gun shot or the sunroof hitting becuase of the panic or push..! post mortom is not allowed by her family thats why actual cause is not clear !

I think the original story is correct. My theory is that since the government, which is run by the military, and the military ( the ISSI) is controlled by many extremists who support al qaeda and taliban that they are covering the assasination and murder of Bhutto up. If they say that she died of a blow to the head by the lever of the sun roof (wow, is that a stretch of the imagination), then they don't have to provide the bullets that would prove their guilt and participation in her murder. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Musharef paid an assassin or collaborated with another Islamicist element to have it done. It wouldn't surprise me if the CIA was involved somehow because it was obvious that Bush supported Musharef's continued rule over Pakistan. Back in 1979, Bhutto's father (who was democratically elected) was murdered by hanging by a military coup that took place several years earlier during the Nixon administration. It is well known that Kissinger supported the military coup and the killing of Bhutto's father a few years later. It is also known that the CIA had their hands in supporting the military coup and take over of the country.

Where do you get your information> I notice you say nothing about your source.

While I was willing to consider that some people in the Pakistani government also wanted her dead and might have been responsible as of now it appears that the Taliban is claiming responsibility. If they say they did it they probably did.

Until we exterminate them (yes I mean exterminate) we will see no peace. After all we would be doing them a favor according to them. And we would be better off also. Looks like win win to me.

Who is to say she is dead? Am I the only one who finds it odd that all of the video stops before the deed? Maybe it is Pakistani custom but, no lying in state? Buried in 24 hours or less? No pictures of the body? On CNN this AM they said it was shrapnel, now it is an accident? This whole story has a very strong odor about it. Oh and Bush's good buddy suddenly will have a new video? Am I the only one who sees a pattern that keeps getting repeated over and over?

'change in the story' no its more like they actually took the time and did an autopsy to find out what really happened versus what everyone assumed happened.

She was still assassinated in my book though, none of this would've happened if there wasn't an attempt.

This is not a conspiracy theory and it really changes nothing. Most people should realize that ultimately there was an assassin who effectively murdered her.

ZINGER: Do you even read stories or do you just assume crap all the time? Pakistani authorities have "proof" (dubious) that it was Al-Qaida.

Seriously people, either take the time to find as many facts as you can, or keep your assumptions to yourself. All you're doing is confusing the issues....

Oh, and they used the same scientific method to reach their conclusion as do the global warming alarmists....do you disbelieve science on this one?

WHATS THE COVER UP? ALL SANE PEOPLE WILL STILL AGREE THAT SHE DIED BY AN ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT....IN EFFECT SHE WAS ASSASSINATED.

No wonder our government is screwed up, most of you people are truly stupid. Just out and out stupid.

And feel free to report me.

The news media has changed dramatically over the years. It used to be that they confirmed a story before they run it, now the run the story before they confirm it. Very scary.

CNN reported the blast from the bomb caused her to fracture her skull on the sun roof or a lever . Conflicting reports will be around for awhile. Happens quite often with a political figure who is assassinated.
