Never noticed that, its normally those who write badly that get the ribbing. However as your Q&A are private I can't judge for myself

People are so lazy. Does it really take any more time to write out words like 'to' or 'you're' instead of substituting them with "2" and "ur"? Internet abbreviations are one of my biggest pet peeves. Just because you're typing, doesn't mean that everything you learned in school should fly right out the window. When I'm chatting with people online, I won't even answer when the first thing someone types to me is "asl?" If you were trying to strike up a conversation with a stranger in real life, you certainly wouldn't get very far by opening with, "Hey, how old are you and where are you from?" When did it become acceptable to do that online? When I have a conversation with someone online, I give them - and the english language - respect, by writing properly. If that makes me pompus, or elitist, so be it.

Because, regretably, in todays society any attempt to use correct English, in grammar, sentence construction or spelling is regarded as being just that, and will attract abuse and ridicule from those not capable of coping with such levels of erudition. Standards are falling, and will continue to fall, unless we much maligned and castigated Pomps and Elites, continue to fight to uphold standards

Because the world is being dumbed down even as I write this. Have you seen the movie, "Idiocracy?"

Dumbing down the world makes it easier for governments to control people. It's a conspiracy. I blame Clear Channel, Disney, and No Child Left Behind.

Silver,
good question! From my perspective it merely seems that clear writing and logical thoughts are bashed for nothing more than "clear writing and logical thoughts".

Sorry you have experienced this, I for one will never "bash" another for effective use of the English language.

By the way, I agree with Joanne above me.

Have a wonderful day!

Gerry :)

The word "freak" would not be my best choice to commence foreplay with. I think it would be a turn off for most people! I can think of some more erotic terminology that that.

If the Republicans continue to "fix" our education system, you will become the elite if you have an education and can read and write. That will hurt peoples feelings when you show them how uneducated they are and they will strike back and call you names.

Because those who can't write clear and complete sentences are immature and in some cases ignorant. Most of these people are children/teenagers. As for the adults, .... well like I said ignorant, dumb, immature or just plane out stupid.
