Who was Bhutto.

Yes I did. She was a former Prime Minister of Pakistan and our country had helped her return to Pakistan so that she could take part in the up coming elections for Prime Minister. It was hoped by many people that she would be able to work with the current President of Pakistan (who took over in a coup) to bring greater stability to the country. She was also very anti-terrorist. She had an attempt on her life in Oct and 140 of those attending the event were killed. I can't say I was shocked to hear she was killed. Just sad. I think she was a very smart, savy lady who could have been a great leader again and it would have been good for the US to have her in power. I just kinda like to get the basics on those countries that have nukes...

As a national of the same country of her, I of course know her. For the people you just knew about her and feel sympathetic as I am too because she is dead.
But anyway she was neither patriotic nor behold love for this country. It all about power, infact lust of power.
Also for the people who have a little knowledge or hardly any knowledge should avoid to give comments like musharraff exiled her. Infact she imposed herself exile and ran to dubai to avoid being arrested involving corruption charges.
And to my Indian fellows as my ancestors are indian too, have my humble request not to cash and enlight their pathetic views since they never like musharaff because he was an army guy. I also ask question before they raise finger on pakistan that calling India a secular country.
Do they have answer what happening on Orissa. Is that a secular nation does.?
Now I m sure other readers of yahoo answer who live in West they have no idea what i am talking about but Indians do know.

Yes. I know Benazier Bhutto as the daughter of an ex-prime minister of Pakistan. He was hanged by anothe dictator.

She lived like a princess in Europe, and could have lived so for the rest of her life. But, she she chose to return to Pakistan -- fully knowing that her life was endangered --to restore democracy in Pakistan. She ended up sacrificing her life for the fundamental rights of her people. I salute her, with all respects.

I am from India -- a traditional "enemy" country of Pakistan. India and Pak have fought many wars. But my heart goes out for the Pakistani people. Because their pride has been destroyed by a military dectator, a favourite of President Bush.

Surprising, that the head of the oldest democracy should have been supporting a dictator. Are the people of the third world expendable?

But for this Musharraf, the terrorists wouldn't have become so powerful. Terrorists need a dictator, and a dictator needs terror to justify his dictatorship. I wish the US President knew this basic premise.

Musharraf has brought Pakistan to such a degradated state, that the US government thinks of Pakistani army (one of the finest in the region) as mecenaries, to fight their war (on terror, or whatever) in exchange for US dollars. (They have paid Pakistan 1 b $ to hunt for Osama).

Ethnically, we (Indians and Pakistanis) are the same people. So even as Pakistan has diverted the US funds (received to fight war on 'terror' on behalf of USA) to develop military power against India, I feel a sense of pity for that country which -- thanks to General Musharraf -- has lost all its pride and become a puppet in the hands of the US president.

I wish the US Congress stopped funding other countries for WAR -- be it a war against 'terrorism'. It is arrogance. All internatinal funding should be through the UNO, and the fund should be called the fund for 'peace', not 'war'. That is the civilized way of putting it.

The death of Benazir has brought Pakistan people to the brink of civil war. I feel very, very sorry for her death.

Yes. She was the Prime Minister of Pakistan before Musharaff sent her into exile. Knowing who world leaders are, especially those whose contries have nuclear weapons is important. It helps you decide who to vote for as a US President, because they will be interacting with them on a regular basis.

Only because I'm a news junkie and had read a book about Pakistan's creation and brief history recently.

Yes, Ironically, I had seen several reports saying that there were people trying to kill her, so it's not like it was a big surprise.

It's sad kind of, but totally not surprising.

Could you imagine living your life knowing there are people looking to kill you and it could happen at any time?

Yes If you follow the world news you would have seen her on it very often in the last few months since she returned from exile. Very sad.
