When I was younger, trolls were older men who went for young guys. Chickenhawk was another name. I've seen the word used here in this way, but also in different scerarios. Has the definition expanded? I'm 43, but I don't think of myself as a troll. But then, I don't around slobbering over teenagers either. What is a troll to you?

"An Internet troll, or simply troll in Internet slang, is someone who posts controversial messages in an on-line community such as an on-line discussion forum with the intention of baiting other users into responding emotionally[1].[2] The rise of the expression "concern troll" reflects an expanded definition of troll as someone whose posts have the primary goal of disrupting or de-railing an internet community. "Troll" is also used in a broader pejorative sense to question the good faith of any Internet user who has annoyed the person using the term."

Hey 42 here.My idea of a troll in this setting is the ones who come here to harass and demean the LBGT community for their own demented reasons. Most of them unfortunately are Christian folks who cant keep their religious beliefs to themselves.I never heard the troll definitions you mentioned.I always knew them to either live under bridges,or be the type with regenerative capabilities that are like 12 feet tall in Dungeons and Dragons.LOVE THAT GAME!Trolls on here regenerate too!!!They get deleted by yahoo and come back under different names....Sad but true.
Hugs!

A troll is a person who intentionally causes disruptions, hilarity, chaos and starts flame wars on the internet. Usually by asking intentionally stupid questions, incendiary questions or always responding negatively to everything. Trolling is hobby of mine. Though strangely enough not here. Guess I feel like it'd be sh!tting where I sleep or something to that effect.

These trolls are different. These are internet lurkers who use on-line forums to launch anonymous and cowardly atacks. Most are bigots, some are closet cases, others are religious fanatics. I am happy to say that they serve the purpose of having GLBT people post answers that courageously refute these attacks, and I can read these answers with pride and get support, and I can write answers and get support. So let's use the trolls to express our truth and build community in Y/a. I love reading answers that put these cowardly lie-mongers in their place now, and I love knowing that god will put them in hell when they die so I don't even have to seek revenge. Happy New Year to Y/a GLBT folks!

Also a troll is someone who knows you but hides under another made up ID just to give you grief, or on this forum one who attempts to clone your ID and then acts like a complete jerk in order to get others to think it is you being a jerk. I hope this helps make it clearer for you, handsome.

There are annoying spammers who come in here to spread hate, confusion, horrible racist remarks, and just be a pain. The majority of us here seem to think they are closeted gay people, but we don't know...

ugly gnomes that hang out under bridges and eat goats passing by or ugly gnomes spouting bibical nonsense about all GLBT people are going to hell (and seemingly needing rejoice in that)
or ugly gnomes who are just plain homophobic and transphobic who seem to feel the need to express that among those they supposedly cannot stand but spend hours communicating with.
