when someone calls you pretty their only tallking about the way you look but when someone calls you sexy they could be talking about your attitude, style, and looks.

Pretty is a more generic term for a good looking woman. It says that you think she's attractive looking without any other implications. Can be used to describe a relation or a young girl.
Sexy has a more intimate tone. It indicates you think this person is sexually attractive, it implies more carnal intent. Often a sexy look involves more than just physical appearance, clothing, makeup and attitude all come into play.

the pretty girl is the girl-next-door type, who has a pretty face, and a normal body and who is nice and can be good fun, but who has no real self confidence and who can never go to a party by herself and still talk to loads of people.
the sexy girl is the girl who is pretty-maybe stunnning- and who has confidence, but not in a in-your-face way, in a way that draws you to her, confidence that can start a conversation or send the first text, confidence that guys respect and can sometimes be intimidated by. that kind of confidence oozes sexiness and makes the girl seem unreal. but if you want to be confident make sure your not horrible with it, or act like you think too much of yourself-a sexy girl is a girl who doesnt know shes sexy, who just seems like shes born that way, and has no idea of the way guys see her.

i think that they mean the same thing.... but it just depends on the person saying them. to clarify this: a shy girl wouldn't say that you are hot or anything like that because a person who says that has to have a lot of confidence and has to be outgoing. so she will say that you are cute and outgoing girl on the the hand will call you sexy and hot because they have the confidence to use those words. but when a shy girl says that a guy is hot that means that he is unbelievably good looking. and when a confident girl says that the guy is cute, then he is more of a boy then a man complicated system.... i know
