Why does my e-mail open in a strange format with microsoft word?

When i open the attachment in my email it autimatically goes to msword and it looks like hyeroglifics i cant figure out what to do...help

i tried changing the font but it still looks weird how do i fix it?

You probably have your e-mail client set to open attachments in HTML instead of plain text, and I'll bet you have Word set as your default HTML editor.
