One thing that you may not understand about western culture is that most parents, no matter what their age, don't WANT to live with their grown children. They want their own space and privacy, usually, and their children give it to them. This is how we in the west show that we care. You do it differently.
Neither way is right or wrong, it's just the way that works for us.

Depends on whom you are speaking with. Many western people do care for (take care of) their parents. Yet many can't afford to or don't have the knowledge to do so. My Grandmother stayed with us until her last 3 months of life, but she needed professional care which we could not provide at home. My mother is in her 70's and has a home of her own yet we are just down the road from her. She said she wants her independence as long as possible. I don't blame her, but I spend all my spare time with her.

like many have said on here, you have less then accurate information.. but lets assume you're right... most western families are wealthier and western families are generally use to taking care of them-self.. we are raised with space around us and don't want to be a burden on our children, we plan for our old age . I don't want to live with my kids when I get old, I don't want them living with me either..
I don't think all Asian people take care of their parents either...
Look what happens in China.......

I'm not sure where you took your poll on this, but I can personally tell you that my grandmother lived with my family until her passing. I currently take care of my elderly parents in their late 70's. I am of Swedish decent. Check your resources before you assume anything...

I'm sorry, but who says we don't take care of or love our parents? My mother and I are very close, I was close with my father until he died, I'm even close with my stepfather. I've spent many long nights sitting at my grandmother's hospital bed side while she cried and begged to die, and in her more lucid moments, I go out of my way to lift her spirits and give her whatever she wants. Where are you getting this erroneous information from?

because in western culture people have children for other reasons than to have someone take care of them when their old.

Because in the west, when your parent does the minimum, its not enough to earn respect and love.
