And which reasons do you usually find for not doing that?
besides the obvious, they are dirty minded , etc.
but what if they are a tad "boring"?
not up to your speed mentally?
how do you let them down the "nicest" way?

To the first answerer, yes, that is nice to say that, but we are talking about letting them get to know you as a friend or anything here!

to have friends one must be friendly, if you do not wish to be friends with this person simply tell them that directly. EXAMPLE: Hey , you are a nice person and all, but we don't seem to have much in common and i really am not interesting in becoming friends ok , see ya around:)*

just say that you would like to keep things on a friendly basis and that you are not looking for a relationship..Say you are very mysterious and thats how you want to stay. Just give one word answers when you are asked your preferences and then hopefully they should get the message...

Tell them that you appreciate them as a friend, but that you're not looking for a relationship at the moment.
