I expect to see some 'shouting' going on here, but please stay civil, people!
I believe it's better for a 15 (for example) year old KID to have an abortion, than to have her try to raise a child in our modern society, or worse, dump it. Why do some folks (and you know who you are) raise such a
rant to make them have the kid, but then you complain about how many people are on welfare?
Don't you realize that a teenager with a baby can't go to high school, get good grades and on to college to make something of herself? There are a VERY few who have done it with lots of support from their families, but most kids who get pregnant that young do it because they DON'T have a family support system in place.
Why do you insist they have the baby, then complain about them not supporting themselves, and THEN vote for more money to arrest them and put them in jail when they go bad?
I say, OK abortions up to 1st term, REQUIRE abortions in incest and rape cases, alcohic/drug addict moms.

Also, you're more than happy to pay for programs to rehab them in jail and will happily support (actually, - insist) having a chapel in their prison to save their souls. After you forced them to be born.

If you were the aborted one, you'd be gone before you knew you existed - it wouldn't make a difference to you. AND, I've heard many people male and female (including a co-worker and an
in-law who say (honestly) that they wish their mother had never had them, their lives had been so violent and difficult, that they had no desire to be here.

As to putting them up for adoption, that's the argument I'm making! One of the people I know who said that (quote above) WAS put up for adoption, he was abused in the orphanage and became distrustful of adults and sullen, and was never adopted, he lived there until he was 18 and then joined the military. And he hates himself for the things he's done there.
And don't even go into foster care, for every decent family working in it, there are 10 who take in foster kids for the money, and mistreat or neglect them.
I know 4 sisters who were put into foster care, 3 of them were raped by caretakers, and one lived in a basement with 9 other kids, they ate and bathed in shifts. She ran away at 16 and had two kids by two different guys, and gave them both away.

THANKS for the rapid response! BUT...
no one has addressed the second half of the problem - why is OK to force them to have the kid, but then complain about the mother and child being on WELFARE? You know it's the same people , because the "liberals" who support abortion are the one who support welfare. So the issue I'm stuck on is the lack of continuity in the anti-abortionists: you forced them to be born - WHY can they not live on welfare or be drifters if they truly want to (or for that matter, commit crimes if they want). You put them into the system, why complain about it?

Wow! Lots of answers to go thru! There were several good answers, I like the ones that tend towards staying out of other peoples lives. Vengeful kitty - you and I share the same sense of humor I think, some people can't handle it. Pink Angel, PamH, Ncaacham all had interesting coments, as did several others but I think Lady Z was closest.

I agree with you. I was going to give you a rant about how, whether abortion is right or wrong should be up to the individual woman to decide, and that no one has the right to tell another person what she can or cannot do with her body. I was also going to say that making abortion illegal again would not stop them, but rather bring the dangerous and filthy back alley abortions back into practice. I was going to say a few other things as well, but then I read the rest of your question, and you are right on. I have always been pro choice, and I believe that if a person is against abortion then they can just simply refrain from getting one....period!
As for the second part of your question, only those who are against abortion and against welfare, can possibly answer it, because those of us who agree with you cannot see the logic in that line of reasoning any better than you can. *sm*

This is a real personal decision. Some people say no because of religion, ethics or any other reason they care about. Some say no because of the unborn's rights of being able to be born. Others say this is OK.
You can come up with many situations that make it seem as being OK for that situation, but even then not everyone will agree. The first thing to consider is whether it is even legal in your state, and then go from there.
As far as the teenager. Where were their brain when they were sleeping together. In many ways it is like saying that a teen killed someone in a fit of anger. They won't be able to go to school either. But you wouldn't consider eliminating the action in that case, why would you do it for the pregnancy.pp

the reason why some people keep their babies is becuase 1, they dont want to go back to school 2, they dont want their kid to be an orphan child 3, after all the pain and suffering they went through they want something back from it.
Abortion is not right however for a child (they have not hit 18 yet) they should give the baby away to someone older and you trust that will take care of the baby well. People are already debating whether people should get a liscence to be a parent. in today's society im starting to think they should.......

From what I can tell about the pro life crowd, I think you're dammed if you do and you're dammed if you don't. It's your own fault if you get pregnant because you have no morals and a bad family life. If you have the abortion then you are a bad person, if you have the baby then you're a drain on society.
My own belief (and I can only speak for myself) is that souls choose the life that they come into...and souls DO choose to be abortions. James Van Praagh has done extensive work on the subject, but everyone is convinced that they have the only answer. That's why I don't tend to get involved in these discussions, but you asked my opinion and this is it.
good question!

Do you understand which you spoke back your person question. Your answer is one that I accept as true with thoroughly. thank you for the question. i desire human beings will evaluate... despite the fact that, the toddler interior the womb has completed no incorrect, yet that's carried out. that's carried out yet has broken no regulation! What crime has been committed? What regulation have they broken of their existence? None. yet they're killed. we do not have the suitable to take existence as quickly as we at the instant are not in a position to furnish existence. God can take existence as a results of fact he's in a position to furnish existence. David Rea says, "If abortion is accomplished in the suitable time scales there is not any one to kill." it is stunning. If there particularly isn't any existence, then why can we would desire to do something? Mmm....

Although "Enigma" has made a most profound and powerful statement, the fact of the matter is; it matters little the century. Time and unwanted pregnancies have always gone hand & hand.
All I can say as; I’m glad that technology has progressed beyond a wire coat hanger.

The best people to make the determination of right or wrong for an abortion are the specific people involved. The pregnant woman, the father, her family, and the doctor.
There are too many factors for a non-involved party to make a general determination.

Abortion should be between the patient and the doctor. It shouldn't be anyone else's business. We have a lot of serious problems in this country. We are penny wise and dollars foolish. We treat the mentally ill, for example pretty poorly. They didn't choose the illness.
Edit: I don't think the question of abortion is an easy decision for anyone faced with this. Life is not black and white. There are many shades of gray and that's why I strongly believe it should be between the patient and the doctor.

I hate even thinking about abortion. It's wrong and immoral. However in todays society it is very much needed. Until America can live as a uncorrupt moral nation again there is no use in bringing more unwanted children into this world. We can cry outrage as members of this society abuse, neglect, murder, rape or simply don't love their children but it doesn't change a thing.

what is simply astonishing is that we even have the need for this debate here in the beginning of the 21st century.
almost all abortions begin with an unwanted pregnancy.
with everything we know and have, why is there ever an unwatned pregnancy?
ask a politician and listen to the sound of crickets...
