As long as it doesn't intrude on the personal space of your neighbors then it is perfectly legal...

BUT

If you can clearly see inside the house of the people across the street from you or on either side then they can take issue with your camera.

But that is only if they KNOW that you can see in side their house... So as long as you are not doing it with the entent of spying or snooping then just don't show them exactly how far your camera can see.

You have the right to protect yourself and your property and a Camera is included in that...

I wish I had one to record the illegal and annoying activities of the restruant below my apartment but I guess that will just have to wait until I can save up! ;-)

As long as it is a security camera and isn't focusing or zoomed into anyone elses window or property.

Yes, it depends on where it is pointed. It'd be hard to prove that you needed to "investigate" your hot neighbor. Better safe than sitting in the slammer.
